I sat quietly on the edge of the building, looking down at the medal in my hands. It felt so strange to me, to be appreciated, to be thanked for doing good, for making a difference in the city."Congratulations," a voice said from behind, Roman. I turned my head and smiled awkwardly before turning away."Thanks," I said sheepishly. They decided to get to my feet and went up to Roman, trying not to cower over him. "I guess I'm getting used to this whole hero thing."
Roman smiled and looked down at me. "Sure are, although if you're up for constructive criticism, I find it's always better not to throw people out of windows."
"Duly noted," I smirked, "But hey, it worked." I shrugged and nudged Roman gently."This time. You were lucky," he pointed out with a good-hearted warning stare. I took a deep breath and rubbed the back of my neck. Then stood up 'straight' and said "Lucky enough to take you out to dinner? Hero to hero?"
He raised an eyebrow with a smirk. "You really are full of surprises today, huh?"
"Well I mean if you like surprises there's plenty more where that came from?" I waggled my eyebrows and Roman laughed."This heroism is going to your head already," he said. "But y'know what? You did good today, so yeah, I'll take you up on that offer."
"Just because I did good and not my wonderful charm?" We moved to facing each other. "Definitely not," he teased.
I cupped Roman's cheek and stroked his glowing reddened skin with my thumb."Hm, well I'll have to work on that over dinner." He tried to smile away his blush as he leant down and kissed me on the forehead. I closed my eyes to savour it."Thank you," I said, moving back. "For helping me see that I could be better."
"You did that yourself," Roman smiled.
He coughed slightly,clearing his throat and stepped back. "I, uh... I should go. People to save, y'know?"
"Of course, just call if you need me. But hey, um. How's tomorrow at seven sound? Italians?" Roman nodded, "Perfect," he reached down and kissed me on the lips. "Don't be late." I say jokingly.
"Wouldn't dream of it."
