I get back to the car and begin driving back home.

 " Hey Melissa," I say.

She looks up from her phone, " Yeah?"

" If you don't mind, can I ask a few questions?"

She puts her phone down, " That's fine."

" OK, h- how long do you have?" I stutter.

" Doctors said a minimum of a month," she hangs her head down.

 " What? No..."

" Christian, it's OK. What happens happens, I just want to be happy for the remainder.

I nod, " Have you considered treatment?"

" No, I was diagnosed too late, and even if I was diagnosed early, I wouldn't have done it. There would have been a slim chance anyways," she picks her phone back up.

The rest of the drive was silent.

I drop her off and go back home.

Daniel had Jonah, Jack, Zach, and Corbyn there, which I didn't mind at all.

" Hey Christian," they all greet.

 " Hi," I smile, " What's going on here?

" We figured you'd want some company, " Jack says.

 " Sure, " I reply.

" Nah, we were planning a beach trip," Jonah answers.

 " Sounds nice," I say.

" You want to come with us? You can bring Melissa if you want," Daniel offers.

" I'll think think about it, and I'll ask Melissa, she may want to be alone," I say.

 They all nod.

" Do you have feelings for her," Daniel shocks me with the question.

" Uh, I used to," I answer honestly.

" Used to?" Tyler raises an eyebrow.

" Yeah, I doubt it's mutual. Besides, the relationship wouldn't go anywhere."

" How do you know?" Tyler asks again.

" She only has a month left," I look up.

 Everyone seems frozen in shock.

" Oh," is all they say.

I decide to go the bed early, not because I was sad, but because I was actually tired.

I lie there thinking about how I did like her, but I wouldn't tell her, nor want the relationship.

I just wanted to stay friends.

I finally drifted off to sleep.
