it had been a month. a month since he left.
he left without saying goodbye. the only recognition that he left was his band's cd. the newest one, that hadn't been sent to the public yet. you were the first one.
over and over, you'd play it in your bedroom. you thought there could maybe be a message hidden inside. until, one day, you stopped listening. you put the cd on the shelf, and went on with your life.
until one morning, you felt oddly sick to your stomach.
you rolled out of bed, and ran to the toilet, where you threw up the contents in your stomach. and it wasn't much.
you had been feeling this way since a week after calum left. but it was only in the mornings. after that, you felt fine.
and you had begun eating things you wouldn't normally eat. like ribs.
but you wiped your mouth, and stood up.
you looked in the mirror. lately, you had been looking bloated. maybe it was from the odd foods you were eating, but you didn't like it. no matter how hard you worked out, it ever disappeared.
you walked out of the bathroom, and called one of your friends. she might be able to help you.
after two rings, she picked up, "yeah?"
"can you run to the store for me?"
"uh, yeah. what do you need?"
"this may sound a little weird, but- uh - maybe- um-"
"spit it out!"
"okay um, can you get me a pregnancy test?"
she didn't talk for a long time, "are you still there?"
she cleared her throat, "um, yeah. i'll get you one. who'd you have sex with?"
you thought about it. it was no one recently. except-
"oh shit." you said.
"it's not-?" she asked.
"i think so. hurry and get down here now." and with that, you hung up the phone.
maybe it was just your nerves, but you felt like you were going to pass out. it couldn't be his. it just couldn't.
but here you were, leaning back over the toilet to throw up water that was in your stomach. you stayed there until you felt a presence at the door.
"just hand it to me." you said, reaching out your hand.
she did, and walked into the next room, "i'll be here for you."
you nodded and closed the door, and peed on the test.
you placed it on the counter, and waited.
it seemed like forever before you saw something beginning to form on the stick.
and there it was.
tears began to fill your eyes, and you felt your stomach. for the first time in a while, you felt scared. like you couldn't do anything in your power to fix it. and you couldn't.
you opened the door, and looked at your best friend.
"i'm pregnant." you cried, sobbing into your hands.
she stood up, and wrapped her arms around you, "you think it's his?"
you nodded, sniffling and letting go of the hug, "i don't even know where he is? for all i know, he won't even pick up the phone."
she shook her head, "no, i think he will."
you sighed, and picked up your phone, "hopefully his number hasn't changed."
you quickly dialed his number, and put it on speaker.
"hello?"
his familiar voice rung through the room, and you felt yourself break a little more.
"um, hi calum."
"are you alright?" he jumped straight to the point, ignoring the fact neither of you had spoken to each other in a month.
"calum, i'm really sorry." you said.
"about?"
"i- i- i don't even know where you are, or how you've been. i haven't been keeping up with anything you've been doing. i wanted to forget you. but now- i definitely won't be able to."
"what are you talking about? are you alright? where are you?"
"calum i'm fine. i- i just need you for this one."
"what do you mean? you're not coming here if that's what your thinking."
"calum, i already dropped out last week. i have my own apartment in sydney now. but it's not really about us. it's about something else."
"well spit it out!"
"i'm pregnant calum." you blurted.
there was a long pause.
"well, say something."
"how do you know it's mine?"
"because calum. you're the only person- just forget it. i know it's yours calum. and i think whatever it is should have a dad growing up."
he sighed, "i'm sending you a plane ticket through the mail. pack everything you'll need."
_____
you stepped off the plane, grabbing your three suitcases, and heading to the second floor, where calum said he'd meet you.
you didn't know what he'd look like now. you didn't knowing he had succeeded with his dream, or if he failed and was living in a broken down apartment. but you knew this baby had to have it's father.
you rode down the escalator, feeling rather nervous. you didn't want to face calum. you didn't know how he'd feel about you. if he lost feelings or not. but you know you didn't.
you stepped onto the marble flooring and looked through the crowd of people, hoping to see him.
finally, you saw the familiar curly headed boy, who was turned around, talking to a girl, close to his age.
you felt your stomach drop. maybe he had fallen out of love with you. maybe it was a mistake coming.
"calum!" you yelled across the room. many people looked at you, but only the familiar brown eyes met yours.
he jogged your way, and stopped moments before he scooped you up in his arms, twirling you around, and then sat you down, "i am so sorry."
you scrunched your eyebrows, "about what?"
"leaving. i guess you weren't gonna be happy after all, and i didn't want to make the choice for you. i'm sorry i left, and left you behind. i'm a real douche."
you smiled, "it's alright calum. you're here now, and that's what matters. but who's that girl you were talking to?"
he smiled, looking behind him, "oh, that's a fan."
you scrunched your eyebrows, "what?"
he laughed, "yep. we've got fans. and a whole lot of them. over three million. and i've got a house right by the hollywood sign. it's quite lonely actually."
you smiled, and kissed his cheek, "i can fix that."
you looked down at your growing bump, "actually, we can fix that."
calum smiled, and engulfed you in a hug, "i love you so much. both of you."
you smiled into his chest. everything was going to be alright.
