[idea by @xoxokiaraaxoxo 😊]

it was three in the morning. calum promised he'd be home by 5 that evening. and he wasn't. not ever close. you'd understand if he was an hour late. but this much?

you'd forgive him if it wasn't for him doing this literally every night. it had been going on for a month, but every night he gave the same excuse. luke couldn't stop talking.

finally you heard the door open, and you put calums bass down. you had been fiddling with it ever since he said he was on his way. five hours ago.

you looked down the stairs and there he was, getting a bowl out of the cabinet.

"5 o'clock huh?"

he quickly turned around and smiled, "yea. you know luke."

"no actually i don't. luke doesn't talk for 8 extra hours calum." you fully climbed down the stairs.

"babe i'm sorry. i just got held up. you didn't have to stay up this long. go to bed."

"no. not until i get the truth."

but calum never told you the truth. you slept on different sides of the bed, even though you so desperately wanted his arms wrapped around your waist.

that week, he still came home late. around three in the morning when he gets off at five.

finally you couldn't take it. you came to the conclusion that he had been cheating on you. you had talked to luke and he said that calum left everyday at five, and wouldn't say where he was going.

you had fully packed your bags, and by five, you had all your things at the door. but then, you heard a car pull into the driveway.

you peeked out the window, and saw calums black truck in the driveway, and him heading up the pavement towards the house.

you scrunched your eyebrows. for a month and two weeks in a row he came home late, and now, he was right on time.

he swung open the door just as you were trying to hide your bags, "what'cha doin' babe?"

you quickly stood up, "nothing. why are you home so early?"

he smiled, "because i don't need to do anything else."

you raised an eyebrow, "what did you need to do before that you could tell me?"

he sighed, "well, i had to get it right. i haven't been the best boyfriend lately, but i'm hoping that if i redeem myself right now, i might be able to be the best husband you'd ever ask for."

you scrunched your eyebrows, but then quickly understood when he got down on one knee.

tears rushed to your checks, and you couldn't help but feel stupid. you were just about to leave him.

"i uh, saved up so much to get you this ring you showed me when we first started going out. $5000 ring. i had to get it. i had to stay later and do extra side gigs each night to afford this without going in debt. so i'm not
trying to pity you into saying yes, but it's non-returnable."

you laughed at his last sentence, and he pulled out a little black box, and opened it.

you immediately gasped. it was a red diamond ring, with a medium sized diamond in the middle. the one you've always wanted. and now, you had it.

you placed your hand over your mouth, trying to trap in your squeals.

"y/n l/n, will you be my wife?"

you nodded and finally, the cool metal of the ring slid over your fingers, fitting too perfectly.
