Overwhelmed

"We're so screwed."

"Wes, we're gonna be fine, alright?" Stiles reassures, but I'm not so sure I believe him.

I drop into the seat next to him as Scott continues to pace around the room, only making my anxiety rise. Suddenly my phone begins to ring, making me jump slightly as I dig it out of my pocket and click the answer button.

"Hello?"

"Wesley, are you with Scott and Stiles?" Allison asks in a rushed tone.

"Uh, yeah. Jackson went straight to the police, they know the three of us kidnapped him so now we're sitting in the Sheriff's office while Stiles' dad calls Sarah and Melissa."

"Are you serious?" She sighs before speaking again. "Put it on speaker, there's something you guys need to hear."

I raise an eyebrow but do what she says and place my phone on the wooden table.

"Long story short, Lydia was at my house when I got home and apparently she knows Archaic Latin. Ms. Morrell was wrong. He doesn't seek a friend, he seeks a master."

I glance between Scott and Stiles. "So he's just a puppet. There's someone else pulling the strings."

"If Jackson doesn't know what he's doing then he probably doesn't know that someone's controlling him."

Scott stops pacing and leans against the table. "Or he doesn't remember."

Stiles holds up a finger. "What if it's the same kind of thing that happened with Lydia when she took off from the hospital?"

"A fugue state." Allison answers.

Scott nods as my leg begins to bounce up and down. "He'd have to forget everything—the murder."

"Getting rid of the blood." Allison adds.

I look up at Scott from my seat. "He probably doesn't even remember getting home the next day."

"He had help with one thing, though—the video. And someone else helped him forget that." Stiles says, rubbing his forehead before placing his hands onto the table again.

Scott looks up from my phone. "Whoever's controlling him."

"Are you sure Jackson has no clue about any of this?" Allison asks, but Stiles shakes his head.

"He thinks he's still becoming a werewolf and that being with Lydia somehow delayed the whole thing."

"So do we try and convince him he's not?"

Scott backs off of the table, nodding. "If it helps us figure out who's controlling him, then yeah."

"Do you think he'll talk to us after what we did?"

"Well, yeah, it's us. He'll talk to us." Stiles tells her with confidence before meeting eyes with Scott and me. "Right?"

The door opens as Sheriff Stilinski nods his head towards the exit. "Boys, follow me."

I pick up the phone and put it to my ears after pressing the speaker button again to turn it off. "Hey, we gotta go. I'll talk to you later if Sarah doesn't kill me before I get the chance."

"Everything is going to be okay, Wes." There's a short pause before I hear her smile. "I love you."

Even under the circumstances, I can't help it as the corner of my lip turns upward. "I love you, too."

"Wesley, come on." Noah hurries.

"Uh, right, sorry." I quickly hang up and follow him into the hallway.
