"It started when I was nine years old...

Dad came home from work and sat down at the table. Although this time was different, he didn't acknowledge me, or Hayden. "Lillian..." He said and looked up finally with red, bloodshot eyes, Mum stared at him and simply nodded. She knew what happened that day. She knew the reason what started all the alcohol, abuse and drugs at some times.

Dad had just lost his job. His career. His business. His life, basically.

His music shop meant everything to him, to his parents and past family. Although the rent had been raised and who wants to go into one of the smallest, cheapest music shops in town?

Money was what we were lacking, but that was just the beginning.

Mum had gotten herself a job as a nanny to a wealthy family twenty minutes out of town. Basically she took care of another couple's issues, cleaned their house and made sure their kids were spoiled rotten.

Still the pay was great, yet just enough to keep a roof over our heads and at most four proper meals a week. Most of our money was taken by our selfish father who was addicted to alcohol and pay television.

Which didn't come cheap. From then on things became worst.

More alcohol was indulged, but still I didn't believe my father was a bad person. No matter what the kids at school would call him, 'a drunk' 'druggo', I still knew my father loved me.

Boy, was I wrong.

One specific night, when mum had come home an hour later then normal. Hayden and I refused to go to bed until we saw our mother home safe and sound. Dad's friends didn't want to play poker and drink beer in front of a nine year old and her protective twelve year old brother.

Mainly because they had respect for our mother and her hate for alcohol but also because they weren't supportive of our father's drinking problem.
