N I A L L { T H U R S D A Y }

Shannon got a day off work today and I asked her to spend it with me. It's raining lightly outside, leaving a nice fresh scent in the air mixed with Shannon's perfume and shampoo.

My hand rests on her shoulder as I place a ginger kiss to her temple, we're waiting for the derby game to come on.

"Did you want a drink?" I ask her.

"Water is fine thanks."

I get up and start to make my way to the kitchen, "And Niall?"

"Yeah princess." She smiles at her pet name, I've been calling her that often.

I don't think she minds hearing it and I don't mind saying it, although I doubt she thinks more of it than a friendly nickname.

"You can have a beer, I know you probably want one."

I fist pump making her let out a cute giggle. I'm at the fridge when I hear the doorbell ring, who could that be?

"Hey, Shan. Could you get that?" I shout down the hall.

"Yup." It's funny how we always yell at each other like a couple.

I can hear a muffled conversation at the door, after I pour Shannon some water and grab myself a beer bottle I head to the front door.

Shannon hears me coming and slides to the left to let me see who's here, my eyes widen as I see my brother Greg, Denise - his wife - Theo, my nephew, and my mum all standing at the door.

"Surprise!" My mother shouts.

"Mum! What are you doing here?" I ask letting them all, I place the drinks on the coffee table and give my mum a hug.

"We just came to visit you, how is my baby boy by the way?" Oh god, here we go.

"I'm just fine Ma." I murmur pushing her hands away from my cheeks while she tries to pinch them.

Greg is laughing to himself as enters the living room, "Yeah Niall, grab me a beer so we can watch the game, will ya?"

"Greg, don't be so rude." Denise scolds, she smiles at me. "It's nice to see you Niall, can I ask who this lovely girl is?"

I look and see Shannon leaning on the door, "Guys this is Shannon, Shannon this is my mum, Denise, Greg and Theo."

I gesture to Theo who's clinging onto my legs as we speak, a large grin on his face.

"Hi." Shannon squeaks.

"Ooh, Nialler has a girlfriend." Greg comments. He's gonna get a punch in the gut soon if he keeps acting the way he is.

I can see Shannon blushing beside me, "Oh look, she's a shy one." My mum says.

"Ma." I groan.

"Sorry, this is the first time in about four years I've seen my Niall happy with a girl." She gushes, oh god.

"Ma, stop."

"It's alright Mrs Horan." Shannon interrupts.

"Oh, please. Call me Maura dear. I stopped going with the last name Horan years ago." My mum waves her off and gives her a warm smile.

Shannon gives her a warm smile, "Um, Niall, if you wanted to spend time with your family then I can leave.."

"No!" I startle everyone, my legs move causing Theo to tumble a bit but I catch him with my hands, steadying him.

"I'm sure they don't mind if you stay, I'd like you to stay, please." Ugh, I sound so needy.

"It's alright if you want to stay, we didn't mean to interrupt anything." Greg yells another unnecessary comment from the lounge room.
