~ Nate ~

"That would be us." Her grandmother said. Her hands were shaking so much. She was looking at him pleadingly while the rest of us looked at each other.
"She conscious." Was all I heard.

I ran immediately to the glass. I pushed out of the circle we created. I placed my hands on the' cold glass and looked in. Her father was standing cuddling her sister and mother at the end the end of the bed looking at her. I saw her and that's all that mattered.
Her eyes were open but too tired so they shut again. I had blocked everything out as I stood hands on the glass looking at her in disbelief.

I could hear the doctor though.

"It is very minimal but she's living without any support. She's only connected to a heart rate monitor. She's still fighting."

I could hear even his voice break. Like he was about to break down into tears.

I turned for a moment and smile to him. To show him I was about to break down too.
"She frightened us for a while there." Is all I could manage. I swallowed hard trying not to cry as he walked to me and put an arm on my shoulder and looked in at her.
"That she did. That she did."

I rested my head in to him. I couldn't believe it. It was all I had wanted for her to wake up from this. And now it has happened. She is conscious. She is without life support. She is fighting. She is still fighting.

I could see her eyes fluttering open. I could see her moving slightly in her bed. There was no machines around her so she looked healthier already.

She could barely lift her head but she was conscious. She was looking around.

She saw the rainbows and began to point very very lazily and I collapsed to the floor in tears.

She saw it.

I was smiling so much! I couldn't contain my happiness. I was crying so much. It was amazing. She's awake.

I felt arms around me and soon found her cousins all around me on top of me or holding onto my hands. I stood. We embraced each other so tightly. All crying. All relieved. We let go of each other only to all turn and watch her. She was smiling wearily. She was tired.

Her family came out to let in the doctors. They came and embraced us all. No words were exchanged. Just tears from shoulder to shoulder. The doctors were shuffling in and out not a single one with a sad face. They all were relieved or filled with joy. It was a lovely feeling knowing even they were happy.

Knowing that those who knew more than me knew just as I did. She is alive. The surgery or operation or whatever it was might not have happened or gone as well as hope but she survived. She's alive.

I broke away from the group and stood up against the glass. The doctor Matthew with the nice butt came out.
"She asked how long there was between you putting that up and her waking up. She knows that's what woke her up. Good job kid."

He smiled with ccomplete glee and happiness. When there is donkeys riding on rainbows with Care Bears on their backs she will survive. And that's exactly what she did. She's a psychic.

"Sorry about before." I muffled thinking about how I had admitted he had a nice butt out aloud. He shifted his position slightly.
"Hey it's not a problem, she's told me before when she was high on drugs." I just laughed. Of course she did. She never manages to keep a secret when she's drugged up.

Then I remember the necklace in my fingertips.
"Do you think you could give this to her for me?"
"Yeah of course. We will have visitors in the next thirty minutes if you want to wait."
"No it can't really wait."
"Okay."

I handed him the necklace and he took it in to her. She took it in her hand and clasped it tightly. I don't think she has seen me yet but her face flushed as she got the necklace. She held it as tight as she could as the doctors walked around her.

I still couldn't believe it I kept pinching myself and checking around me to see if time had stopped or something. It was so unbelievable.

I was still holding out to speak to her and hold her hand with her actually squeezing back. I can't wait to her here voice and see her smile with her eyes towards me. I can't wait to talk to her in an actual conversations. The letters were great but not as good as the real deal.

The family all went in before me. I offered to call around with the news. They all went in to see her. After all they deserve to see her before me. I called around and got to be the bearer of good news. It was so comforting to hear the excitement on the other end of the line or the disbelief. It filled me. It overwhelmed me so much. I had tears multiple times between calls.

The energy was so beautiful. People said they would call later before coming in. Everyone was in disbelief and run over joyed when I reassured them.

For myself, calling everyone was like reassurance to myself that this is real that I'm not dreaming.

When I could finally go in I was hesitant. I felt not pressure but I was scared. I don't know why. She was lying there half asleep. She looked so content, she was so pleased. A slight smile pursed on her lips. When she noticed me walking in I knew I had to say something.

"Do you think I will have to wait long for this first date because I've learnt I'm not very patient?" She just smiled locking eyes with mine. I moved to her side slowly as she reached for my hand. She was frail. She was still pale but she looked so much better. So much happier. She looked alive.

I sit in the chat raise her clasping her hand in both of mine.
"You made that?"
"It was a group effort," I said lifting my eyes to the wall. It looked good through the glass. I was proud of it. I continued, "but yeah, it worked. Your a psychic Gabby."
"And your a genius."

She squeezed my fingers. Finally there was response. Finally she was holding my hand back. Finally it wasn't limp.

"Your tired I can just keep talking if you like."
"Please."

"So I can't believe you gave me that necklace back. One day you yourself will be able to pass it on to Hope Alexandra. It could be a new family relic."

"Our family relic."
