You both stare out the window for a while.
"Pretty, huh?" You whisper.
"Yeah," Ed whispers back.
"Have you seen snow?"
"Twice. This is the third."
"I see it all the time."
"Lucky."
"Not really, it's cold and yucky all winter here. Not fun."
Your parents hadn't turned on the heat yet, and there was a lock on the thermostat. You couldn't turn up the heat past sixty-five. Your house is cold as it is, now it's worse.
You explain that all to Ed, and he looks concerned.
"My automail can't get too cold. This wasn't built for winter, I'll get frostbite where it meets my skin. That's bad, really bad," Ed says, concerned.
"Well, I guess we just get all the blankets and pillows, and make an attempt to not die," You say trying to lighten the mood.
"Sure, we can do that. We could watch a movie too."
"Or, you could teach me some alchemy?" You suggest.
"Well, sure. I can try. I'm not much of a teacher though."
You go into your room and move the carpet, revealing the old wooden floor. You also grab a piece of chalk and a bunch of small pieces of black yarn from the kitchen.
You dig in your pocket and grab the gear from Ed's automail as well.
"This is all I could find, sorry," You say to Ed.
Ed takes the chalk and draws a circle on the floor. He adds a few more triangles and lines, and it looks like a transmutation circle now.
"Put the string in the middle of the circle," Ed says to you. You place the string and gear in the center of the transmutation circle.
" 'Kay, now put your hands on the edge of the circle," You put your hands on the edge as told.
"Now concentrate real hard on the string, maybe we can get it to work."
You close your eyes and concentrate. You open your eyes to find the circle glowing, and Ed smiling. You close your eyes again and concentrate harder.
Finally, the light died down and you pulled your hands away from the circle. You open your eyes to find that it worked.
In the middle of the circle was a necklace with the gear hanging from the string. Ed picked it up and looked at it.
"Great job! I can't even see the lines where the string was combined together," Ed smiled, "Turn around a second."
You turn around and you can feel Ed's arms move over your head. He clips the ends of the necklace together and fixes your hair. You look at the necklace.
The gear hangs perfectly around your neck, "Thanks Ed," You tell him.
"You made it, not me," He says.
"You helped me make it though," You respond.
"You-you look beautiful," Ed stammers out.
You blush madly, "Thanks, y-your pretty handsom yourself."
Ed blushes bright pink. You both sit in silence for a while.
"Okay, I'm just gonna say it so, please don't die or anything, okay?" You tell him.
"I'm pretty sure we're thinking the same thing. Let's just say it."
You both hesitate before saying, "I think I love you."
