You both walk into the living room. You both sit down on the couch next to each other.
“You getting used to it yet? I know it’s uncomfortable at first,” Ed tells you.
“It feels kinda odd. I’ll get used to it eventually,” You move your arm again. It kind of hurts to move it at the shoulder, but otherwise it’s great.
“Well, what do you wanna do?” Ed asks.
“Well, I was good at alchemy before. Can we try it now?” You ask, twisting the gear on the string in your fingers.
“Sure. Let’s try again,” Ed smiles. He gets up and walks into the kitchen. You get up and follow.
You see Ed grab a cloth from the cupboard. He unfolds it and lays it on the table. It has a transmutation circle sewn on it.
“Mom made this for Al and me when we were little. I don’t know how we still have it, but it means a lot to Alphonse,” Ed explains.
He puts a small piece of paper in the center of the circle. You put your right arm on the circle. You slowly place your automail on the circle as well.
It feels odd at first, to not be able to feel the soft cloth under your fingers, to not feel anything touch your left arm. You close your eyes and concentrate.
The circle lights up green and the paper starts moving. You watch it twist and start to float. It lands back on the circle, folded to look like a paper crane. You’ve seen them made in books, but you’ve never made one yourself before.
Ed picks it up and looks it over. He sets it in your hand gently.
“Perfect, no crease lines from mistakes. You should be very proud of that,” Ed smiles sweetly.
“Here,” You put it back into his palm, “Keep it, my gift to you.”
Ed folds it’s wings up and puts it gently into his pants pocket.
“Thanks. So, what do you think we should do now?”
“We could spar a little, you up to the challenge?” You ask him.
“Let’s do it! Just take it easy on your arm, it’s not fully healed,” Ed cautions.
Ed hands you his jacket and you slip it on. You both head out into the yard.
