Chapter 20

You get into town after a half hour. You stop at multiple stores and a few stands on the street. After an hour you’ve gathered half the items on the list. You track down the other half in another hour.

By the time you get the supplies it’s about noon. You stop at a place for some lunch. You get in and see Winry and Alphonse sitting at a table.

Winry sees you and waves you down. You walk over to the table they are sitting at.

“Hey, what’s up?” You ask.

“What are you doing in town? I thought you were with Ed?” Winry asks.

“Oh, he got called out for business. I’m just getting some things while he’s out.”

“Like what? I thought you got everything yesterday?”

“Oh, there….was a few things he wanted that weren’t on the list. I needed a few other things too.” You lie quickly.

“Oh, well okay then.”

“I gotta go, I still need one more thing, then I’ll head home for the day.”

“Okay then. See ya tomorrow!” Winry called as you walked away.

You waved and headed out the door. You had forgotten to get food, but you didn’t care. You just wanted to get home.

You got back home, but not before you realized you had forgotten something.

You headed to the mechanics shop. You grabbed a small sewing machine oil. You bought it and shoved it in your pocket.

Ed’s automail had been squeaking this morning. You would give this to him later.

You finally got back and tossed the three bags of stuff onto the kitchen table.

You took the list out of the jacket pocket. You read off the list in your head.

Salt, Carbon, Water….Yep, you had gotten it all. You went into the storage room and grabbed a metal bucket. You took it into the basement, along with all the bags of stuff.

You flipped the list over and examined the drawing on the back. A circle for human transmutation.

You took some chalk and drew the circle exactly as it was on the paper. You put the metal bin in the middle of the circle.

You put all the ingredients into the bin and stepped back, careful not to smudge the circle.

Perfect. It was perfect. You glanced at the clock in the corner, 4:36. Plenty of time before anyone came home.

Nothing could stop you. This was happening. You had the skill to make this work.

You can bring him back. No problem.
