I was hovering over Mari the whole night. I felt really bad because I feel like I'm just repeating her last boyfriend. Getting too intense and invested. I can't do that. I was sitting next to her on the couch, we were kinda just watching everybody else. "Ok look, I'm sorry for being so clingy tonight, I just really don't want you getting hurt," I explained to her. She looked over at me with a vacant expression. "Oh, it's fine." Well, she seems good. I decided to go get some food and soda. I found the liter bottle of Coke and filled the plastic cup to the brim. I got some for Mari too. She was still there on the couch when I came back. That's about all I remembered.

I had my arm around Mari's waist so she wouldn't fall over, but then this really good song came on and I lifted my hands up so she fell to the ground. We both started laughing our heads off.

I'm carrying Mari upstairs. I almost fall down them.

I laid her down on a bed and I collapse next to her. She rolled over and pressed her lips to mine, I ran my hand up her back. Her arms wrapped around my torso, pulling, pulling me ever so closer. I roll her on top of me. We hadn't broken apart. I felt like air was something inferior humans needed. I had never felt like this around Mari before, I needed her. I remember her leg cast getting in the way.

We left the party and continued our own party in the back seat of my truck.

The next morning......

I woke up with a wicked headache. I was so cold. I've stayed in my truck overnight before, and it's usually colder than this. I snap out of it and realise I'm warmer because Mari is laying right next to me, with nothing on but her leg cast. Oh my god, no, no, no, no. This will ruin everything! I was supposed to take care of her last night! Last night.... What the hell happened last night? I wasn't wearing anything either. I quickly and soundlessly got dressed and wrapped the blanket around Mari. She doesn't deserve to wake up as confused as me. It was about 4 AM.

Mystery Person P.O.V
I had watched the two all night. Enter the party, leave completely stoned and get in the truck. How dare she.

David's P.O.V
I started the truck and she started awake. "What-" "Hey Mari, it's ok. You're with me," I reassured her. She relaxed a little. "I'm naked," she said nonchalantly. The way she said it made me snicker. "IT'S NOT FUNNY!" "Sorry, sorry. Of course it's not," I said hiding a smile. "Where are we going?" She asked. "My place, I said I was gonna keep you off the streets so that person can't find you. And about that, who is this guy that's out to get you? Why don't you call the police?" I ask her. "I really don't want to talk about it," she dismissed. "And I really do. If I'm going to keep you safe, I need to know who this guy after you is!" I said louder. "It's not your job to protect me! You're acting just like Jake!" She yelled back. Ouch. "Ok, I'm sorry. But I should be able to care about your well being," I reasoned. She turned away, pulling the blanket closer. "It's the entire reason why we moved. I still have nightmares about it David. I don't want to talk about it," she finished on the verge of tears. I pulled over and stopped the truck. I climbed into the back seat and wrapped Mari in my arms. She started sobbing into my chest. I gripped her tighter. I lifted my face from her hair and stared out the windshield. I saw someone staring straight at us, then they disappeared around a corner. I swear they were staring at us.

When we got to my place, I got out of the truck and faced away so she could get changed. When she was done I held the door open for her. She just sat there . "What are you doing?" I asked her. "Where are my crutches?" "Oh shit, are you serious? We can get them later," I said. I didn't even notice they were gone. I helped her out of the truck and wrapped my arm around her waist. It was a long way to even the front door of the apartment complex. Screw this. I bent down and brought my hand up behind her knees and lifted her into the air. "AH! A little warning next time might be nice," she snipped. "Nice is overrated," I replied. "Aren't your parents home?" Mari asked. "First of all, they're my grandparents," I corrected. "Of course," she answered. "Second of all, no, they are not home, we have the house to ourselves," he said wistfully.
