Chapter 6

Jerry stared at his phone, well, the homeowner's old Nokia flip phone, in shock.

Remy. Just. Called. Me!!!!!!!  Not only that, but he was practically buzzing at the thought of being able to see Remy again. The thought of him being in Jerry's humble hole made him feel very fuzzy.

Wait! Remy coming over would mean that Jerry would have to tidy up a bit, after all, he can't have Remy possibly choking on some dust. Jerry would never forgive himself if Remy somehow went into cardiac arrest because of dust inhalation.

Jerry spent the next few hours tidying up the small space in the wall he inhabited. Picking up dust bunnies he was sure had been on the couch for decades, sweeping the floor, just honestly touching up anything that looked just a step from clean. Now that his home reeked of lemon scented cleaner and Windex, he was satisfied. Honestly, the amount of sawdust and who knows what else was shocking. Who knew that Tom had done so many murder attempts on him that there was dust even in places he didn't know dust could go.

Finally, it seemed perfect enough for Remy to see, although he had already seen his house in its earlier state... Whatever, it's good enough as it is, Jerry thought. Just as Jerry made to relax on the couch until Remy arrived, a knock on the door echoed through the hole.

Remy?! Was he here already? Well, Jerry supposed that it had been quite a few hours since the call, and Remy was only a rat after all.

Jerry opened the door to find Tom's paws standing in front of the hole.

"What do you want?" Jerry asked, annoyed that he went to all the effort to look pleasing to eye only to see him standing at the door.

"Just wanted to tell you I mean well on my promise. I notice your house smells worse than usual. I honestly prefer the sawdust, but seeing as it smells like chemicals, you're expecting company." He said, jabbing at Jerry through the hole. Jerry stepped back to avoid Tom's claw.

"And if your new boyfriend," Tom drawled the word, "is coming over, I will follow through on my promise to kill you both without batting an eye." He said, dragging a claw over his throat. Jerry knew better than to give in to his threats, but he couldn't help but sweat at the idea.

"Anyways! Ta ta~~" Tom said, in an abrupt change of tone, before speeding away from the hole. Jerry gulped and flopped straight onto the floor. He only had a second of solace before a knock on the front door could be heard.
