SANTY
"SANTY!"
I quickly turned around upon hearing that chirpy voice. A small smile curved on my lips when I saw Bee, my cousin, and only best friend.
She's wearing her signature all ears smile while gracefully walking towards the table I've been sitting for forty-five minutes now. Some of the boys gave her a once over, appreciating the 5 foot seven inches goddess who's making every girl in the library now, jealous or angry.
Lahat naman kami ay pare-pareho ang suot, cream skirt, and blazer with the school's coats of arms on the right chest, white dress shirt, and a blue silk scarf to complete the look. But it's different with Bee, she never failed to grab everyone's attention when she enters a room. Her beauty and elegance radiate when she walks, it's as if she owns the place and the world is her runway.
She's a walking supermodel, the cheerleader, goddess of confidence and beauty while I'm the exact opposite.
I'm the wallflower, the outcast. A pariah.
I'm like a ghost walking inside the campus, nararamdaman pero 'di pinapansin. Swerte na kung isang araw may bumati sa 'kin na isang estudyante bukod kay Bee o kung meron man iyon ay para mag tanong kung saan makikita ang book ni Homer or do we have a certain book in the library's circulation. Other than those reasons, the students avoided me like the bubonic plague.
I should be hurt but oddly, I'm relieved. At least here at school but at home, it's totally different.
I heaved a sigh.
When I was alone and confined in the elegant room, that's when I questioned why's everybody avoiding me? Ganoon ba ko ka-insignificant?
My train of thoughts was cut-off by the sound made by Bee as she plopped on the stool across me and grabbed my face with both of her hands much to my surprise.
"You mad?"
"You're late," I told her matter of factly not answering her question.
She smiled knowingly.
I'll make it up to you later. Treat kita ng booba, yung big," nakangiting sabi nito at binitawan ang mukha ko. Tucking some loose hair behind her ears with her well-manicured fingers then winked at me. That's her way of making amends, bribing me with milk teas or fries.
I gave her the sweetest smile I could manage.
"Okay. What happened ba?"
"The usual. Naipit ako sa meeting sa Org. We have loads and loads of things to do now because of the big event next month."
"Ah, okay. Kumain ka na ba?" I softly asked her.
"Yup. Ikaw?"
"A-ah, tapos na," alanganin kong sagot. Nakalimutan ko na kasing mag lunch kanina dahil agad akong dumiretso dito after ng class ko.
Biglang nabahiran ng pag aalala ang magandang mukha ng pinsan ko. I saw guilt in her eyes.
"Naku sorry talaga, Santy. Hindi ka pa nakapag lunch. Tara na sa cafeteria. Later na natin tapusin yung research paper natin."
