February 19; 12:34 PSTMarie walked up to her long time friend's house and knocked gently on the front door. After waiting a few moments, the door opened slowly revealing Jessica's mother, Marie grinned at the older woman. "Mrs. Cruz! Long time no see!"
"Marie, I see you went on one of those long trips again." Mrs. Cruz greeted the girl with crossed arms. "Good to have you back, when's the next time you plan on leaving?"
Marie laughed, shaking her head. "Not for a while. Well, not any long trips for a while. Maybe a few little trips to different countries, definitely different states. You know me, a full-time adventurer."
"Yes..." Mrs. Cruz nodded her head looking unimpressed with the girl. "I remember when you told Jessica you were not going to finish school because you wanted to travel the world."
"Yep." Marie's smile widens, and she stuffs her hands in her pockets. "So is Jess here? I've been meaning to meet up with her since I got back a month and a half ago but we've both been too busy."
"I'm here," A voice came behind the door, and Jessica Cruz pushed past her mother and out the door. She pulled Marie into a quick hug. "Marie, it's great to see you again." Jessica grabbed Marie's upper arms pulling her down the steps and onto the sidewalk, and they began to walk away from her house.
"It's good to see you too, Jess." Marie smiled, stuffing her hand back into her pockets. "But I need some advice."
"Yeah, anything." Jessica nodded.
"So you know my cousin, Alya. She's really struggling with dad. In the beginning when she first moved in with us. Alya was upset that he hadn't taken her in early, or no one in our family did. Jack, Jim no one took her in, and she was left in the foster system for eight years." Marie began looking down at the concrete as they walked. "She blamed Dad for a lot of the things that happened to her. And admittedly, some of the things he is to blame for. He could have taken her in when David died, but he didn't. But after a year of living with us, she forgave him. But I think that she still wants more from him."
Jessica shook her head with a laugh. "Marie, Alya isn't you. If your Dad is still the same way he was when we were kids, he's probably isn't around a lot."
"Yeah, and she told me about wanting him to be around more. But there isn't much I can do." Marie sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "That's why I came back, to be there for her. And Dick said that it's helping, that she's doing much better, but I know that she's still having troubles with the fact that Hal's still not here. And I know that's she having trouble with school, and not making friends, and it isn't like when I couldn't make friends, it's like she is the most hateable person to walk the earth and she makes it her goal to have everyone hate her. Like what person wants people to hate them."
"Someone who doesn't want to get hurt," Jessica answered softly. "Alya has been left several times in her life, her parents died when she was young, her family didn't want her, she bounced from foster family to foster family, and now her uncle that took her in, is never home, and her new cousin is always on an adventure doing who knows what. I'm sure Alya thinks that everyone she cares about just disappears. And the two people she doesn't want to hate her, are the people most distant from her."
"I'm not away from her anymore. I just told you that I came back for her."
"Marie, I know you. When's the last time you hung out with her, just you and her. No Dick, no anyone. Just you and Alya, being cousins, being sisters?"

"Investigating the origin of the alien bomb that destroyed the Krolotean invasion force is still a high priority," Nightwing told them, Spark sat in the bioship with Wonder Girl, Batgirl, Ms. Martian, and Bumblebee, as they were on their way to Bialya for a mission. Spark was not happy that Spirit wasn't on this mission with her, but she of course couldn't accept Nightwing to place her on every mission with Spirit, they needed to know that she could be cooperative without the senior team member with her. Which Spark didn't know herself, well she guesses they find out today. Nightwing was still briefing them on the mission through the screen in front of the bioship. " We suspect the bomb may have been smuggled to earth via boom tube. Watchtower sensors scans in Bialya have recorded an uptick in boom tube activity. Alpha squad. Your mission is--"
