Lucy left Marshall alone. She wanted to give him some time alone with his thoughts. Since she had some money with her, Lucy got in her car and went to the parking lot to meet all her past friends.
- I told you to not come back without the money. - James stopped by Lucys' window.
- I know. - Lucy handed him the cash. - you and me, quarter-mile, let's go right now.
- Alright, how much you putting?
- 200 and it's a deal.
- Alright, let's go.
Lucy got her car ready and drove to the start line. Lin stood in front of both racers to start the race.
- Are you ready? - She pointed at James. He revved the engine. - Are you ready?
Lucy nodded. Lin counted to three and both drivers blasted off. James blasted off first, but Lucy caught up and won the quick race.
- What's the point of quick acceleration if you can't keep it up? - Lucy was bitter at James.
- Okay, you won, you get the money. - James was visibly upset.
- Fast and can't keep it up, - Lucy smiled and looked at Lin, - does that sound familiar to you?
Lin chuckled but went back to James moments later.
Lucy kept racing throughout the race and winning money. She took all the things she learned on the track and transferred that to the street. After winning a handful of cash, her car started smoking.
- Oh darn, I think I'm done for tonight, - Lucy sighed, - Come see me in Texas on Friday.
Some people welcomed her out, while others were happy she was leaving.
- Hey Lucy, - Lin walked up to her window, - I've seen some of your stuff online, you're doing good, but the streets aren't for you. We both know you're meant for more.
- Thanks lin, that's why I'm going to Texas. I just come here to have fun and relax.
- Okay then, take care.
Lucy drove back home and went right to sleep.
The girl arrived in Texas on Thursday for the placement race. She finished in a solid fifth, even though she didn't like that result.
The next day Lucy put in some earphones and listened to music before the race. Looking around the people she saw everyone she expected to see. Elliot smirked and winked at her, she waved back.
- You seem ready. - Connor smiled.
- I sure am, - Lucy took out one earphone, - it's warm, it's a clear sky, it's six hours, I'm ready for it all.
- Great to hear.
Lucy jumped in her car ready to destroy the competition.
Right as the safety lap ended, Lucy had to swerve to avoid a crash in front of her. Something didn't feel right as she was driving.
- Lucy, swerve around a bit, you've caught some plastic with your wheel. - Connor told her.
- Got it, thank you. - Lucy shook around the car on the track and got rid of the plastic.
With the crash and plastic, Lucy was a little behind, but she had six hours to catch up and dominate.
One lap after another the situation wasn't changing. Lucy climbed to third and kept switching between third and second with Elliot.
Howard and Marshall decided to take a break and play some chess close to the pits when Connor and the others were left to watch.
- How is she doing? - Howard moved his pawn.
- She's second. - Marshall reassured.
- Great. Scott, I know this isn't a good time to ask, but do you think we can win?
