Lucy opened her eyes and saw everyone gathered around.
- Guys, she's back. - Connor sighed in relief.
- Great. The track got a little hot, huh? - Marshall chuckled.
- Literally unbearable, but I won so it was worth it. - Lucy sat up.
- Yeah...About that, - Howard cleaned his glasses, - they didn't count it and tomorrow you're racing again.
Lucy got up from her bed to find a race official, but everyone stopped her in her track. After some explaining and talking, Lucy pulled herself together to get ready for the following day. She laid in bed, drank some water, and got herself ready to race.
The day was hot, but it was much cooler than the initial race day.
- Heard about your accident yesterday, - Elliot walked up, - made me icky just thinking about it.
- I don't remember half of it. All I know is that I won fair and square.
- It's easier to win when nobody else is on the road. - Elliot laughed.
Lucy playfully pushed him back to his pits. Right before the race, she stared at the mirror for a couple of moments.
- Ready? - Marshall asked.
- I think so. My back and abdomen hurt a little bit. So does my head, but that could be the heat from yesterday.
- Stay safe out there.
The race started and Lucy was leading in first since she and everyone else already knew the track pretty well from the previous day. As the race picked up the pace, everything was being broadcasted with commentators talking about the race.
- Now Jim, I must say that Lucy Green is an extremely rookie racer but she has grown quite a fanbase.
- Well that is for a good reason Jeremy, she has been on the level of Xander Buckley and Elliot Morgan, who have been in the racing game ten times longer than Green. Now as they are heading into the corner on the second hour, Morgan is leading, Green and Buckley right behind.
- I can't imagine how Green is feeling after yesterday's race, or should I say lack of it. But Jim, I think you're missing a gem in this race. Of course, I am talking about Christian Miles driving for Porsche. He has been keeping up with the best for quite a while now and I think he's just waiting for his big breakout.
Lucy didn't have a clue what the commentators were talking about. After a quick fuel stop, she got out on the track to finish the race and prove a point. With ten minutes left Lucy felt some stomach cramps and looked down at her crotch:
- Goddammit. Well, not stopping now. - She continued driving.
- Why did you slow down? - Lucy heard from the radio.
- Don't worry, I'm speeding up again.
Without anyone even threatening Lucy, she finished first and secured her place in the top three. Her helmet came off even before getting out of the car. She took her helmet and unsuspectingly placed it on her crotch.
- Can you grab my backpack for me? - Lucy asked Connor.
- Sure. - He threw her backpack.
- I'm gonna need to excuse myself to the bathroom. - Lucy told Marshall and ran off.
- The fans wanna see you some more. - Marshall tried calling her back.
- Yeah, but I really gotta go. I'll be back just a second.
Lucy took care of all her business, took off the racing suit, and got changed into clothes she had in her backpack. After changing, she went back to the pits to meet some fans. Everyone was celebrating the victory, but Xander clearly wasn't having it.
- Hey, - Xander walked up, - that wasn't bad.
- Yup, thanks.
- I'm still in first. - Xander smiled and put on his sunglasses.
Unfortunately. for Lucy, he was right. In the overall score, Xander was winning. She wasn't worried, since she still had three races to catch him, but she was cautious.
- Green, how do you feel about today's race? - An interviewer pulled out her microphone.
- Um yeah, I feel incredible, it's a great day. I feel like I was robbed out of yesterday's win, but I'll take today's. I knew I could do it, so I just did it. I had some...Biological issues towards the end, but everything was okay and I managed to pull that victory.
- How do you feel about being a woman in a male-dominated sport?
- Well, to be honest, I'm not sure why that matters. I'm a racer first, and I hope people look at me as a racer. I personally think I have shown more than enough that women or anyone else in that matter can race just as well. Sure it requires a ton of physical power, but who's to say I don't have it?
The interviewer tried asking more questions, but the crew had to pull Lucy out and bring her back. Everyone discussed the race and talked about what to do next.
- Grab me the Coke. - Lucy sat down at the table.
Marshall grabbed everyone's drinks and sat down with everyone else.
- So, - Howard had some stuff written down, - you can still win, you have a pretty good chance of winning, to be honest. Any reason for slowing down there towards the end?
- Woman problems.
- Understood. - He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes.
- We need to get ready for the next race. - Marshall joined in.
