this is my first attempt at true angst 😬 i hope you like it and thanks for the request @gil_inori! :)

this may be sort of graphic and involves a serious accident so please don't read if this triggers you in any way.

the hardest part is waiting. i haven't heard any news in over an hour so i have absolutely no idea if everything is alright in the other room. i can't even hear any voices; the only thing i can hear is the pounding of my heart in my chest. i know all of my friends are surrounding me, i can see my brother junmyeon's arms wrapped around me, but i'm completely numb. the only thing that matters to me is in another room, possibly not going to come back to me.

i was sitting at my desk at work when i got the call. the receptionist sent it through to me and i was deeply confused when the person on the other end introduced himself as a police officer.

"mrs. park, i'm sorry to inform you that your wife, mrs. park chaeyoung, has been in a car accident," he said. the floor dropped out from beneath me at that point and i was barely able to pull myself together enough to ask what happened.

"it seems that she was sitting at an intersection when a car coming the opposite direction lost control and hit the driver's side."

"i-is she..."

"she's alive, ma'am, but critically injured. she's been transferred to the hospital and they're taking her into surgery as we speak."

he then told me the name of the hospital so i yelled to my boss where i was going and rushed there as soon as possible. i called our friends on the way and by the time i arrived, they were all already waiting.

that was 4 hours ago and all i've heard since then is that she's still alive, her body is intact, but she isn't waking up. they had to operate on her brain and they told me it all went well but they don't know when or if she'll wake up. they don't know anything and i know even less.

"she'll be okay, (y/n)," junmyeon whispers, running a hand over my hair.

"you don't know that," i mumble.

"you can't think like that. if you think negative things-"

"then what? negative things will happen? you think this isn't the most negative thing that will ever happen?"

junmyeon's head falls in embarrassment but i can't feel any guilt for what i said.

"i need air," i say. i push his arms off me and storm out of the waiting room without another word to anyone. they all try and stop me but i completely ignore them as i head for the main doors.

i almost get outside but then i hear an unfamiliar voice call my name and i turn to see a doctor entering the waiting room. i run over and am immediately pulled into junmyeon's arms again before i can accidentally tackle the doctor.

"is she okay? is she awake?"

the doctor's face doesn't change so i know that there isn't any good news, but i have a tiny amount of hope that there's no bad news.

"she's not awake yet but our scans are showing that there's no major brain damage," he says. those words make my knees weak and both junmyeon and chanyeol have to grab me to keep me upright.

"however, she does have many injuries," the doctor continues. "both legs, her left wrist and her collarbone are shattered but we're almost positive they'll heal well. she has a few broken ribs and one punctured her lung but we repaired it. she will have a serious concussion and whiplash from the force of the car and it's possible that if she wakes, she'll have amnesia."
