THIRTY-FOUR,
completely mad⋆
TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST, Ella Samuels was still highly unsure of what to think of their new home, Alexandria, on the day they were all granted to meet the many ignorant others in which inhabited the growing community.
The mansion-like buildings may been a decent blessing for their group — or, the outsiders — that was for sure, but the longer Ella had gotten use to its protective walls and untouched citizens, she began to dread the little community more and more. Of course, this irrational annoyance was only due to the fact that all sixteen members of their tight-knit 'family' hadn't stepped foot in an actual civilized neighborhood, in what seemed to feel like ages.
In actuality, the blonde knew that she should have been beyond thankful, for Deanna even considering their citizenship. However, Ella still couldn't help but realize Alexandria's many flaws, just from the single glance they were all granted a day following their untimely arrival. And, by what she had picked up from the others around her, she was not the only one with this particular thinking.
First and foremost, the people who lived in the community, their differences only increased in variety, with each individual they were all eventually introduced to. Ella, in the beginning, liked to think that many of the people she had met were only being polite, or at least trying to, with their innocent questions about what it was like living outside the walls for so long. It started with Deanna, and her simple interview questions, and her basic sympathy to all she had lost.
Which, don't get her wrong, Ella didn't particularly mind the usual apologies whenever someone discovered the fate of her deceased family. But, she couldn't help but note how shocked Deanna seemed, whenever she had explained the story of her parents, and later two sisters. Not like being shocked was a bad thing — again, it was only normal — but for a story like hers, it was only the assumed one for many of the individuals still living. After all, practically more than half of the members of their traveling group were orphaned, or had no family even left.
