15. By Your SideHope and Harry continued to walk from the cliff back up the hill toward the school. It was silent, awkward, and felt as uncomfortable as it could get. The two tried to walk as close as they could while maintaining a friendly distance, but it was hard to do so as they also wanted to walk as close to one another as they could.
They seemed to manage it as they made it to the top of the hill, where they came face-to-face with what looked like a herd of the dead horse looking creatures that pulled the carriages on the day they first arrived. Hope didn't know if Harry could see them, so she said nothing of them. That was, until one of them came up to her and huffed out a breath in front of her.
She laughed, her hand reaching up to softly scratch underneath the horses' snout. Harry watched in amazement as she did so, doing the same thing as one of them walked up to him as well. It was not clear to both of them that they could see the horses. And as Harry looked past the horse in front of him he saw the girl he rode the carriage with himself. He slowly pulled away from the horse and asked toward the girl known as Luna Lovegood. She was barefoot as she pet the horse in blue shorts and a blue sweater. Her long hair was cascaded down her backside and from what he could see, she was quite happy in her predicament. Hope soon follows behind him, clueless as to who the girl was.
"Hello, Harry Potter."
Luna stopped petting the horse looking creature to look to the side of her, "And hello to you too, Hope Mikaelson."
Harry looked the small girl up and down before quietly whispering toward her, "Your feet. Aren't they cold?"
The raven claw shrugged, but nodded with a small smile etched onto her lips. "A bit. Unfortunately, all my shoes have mysteriously disappeared. I suspect Nargles are behind it."
Harry smiled down at her as they both turned back toward the mystical creature as it began to walk away. Hope said nothing from beside Harry and the girl she didn't know, but that somehow knew her. But she was more curious about what the horse looking creatures were.
"What are they?"
Luna smiled, looking past Harry and at the girl she could feel power emitting from, "They're called Thestrals. They're quite gentle, really but people avoid them because they're a bit..."
The three of them all looked out toward where it looked to be a mother Thestral and a baby Thestral. Hope tilted her head as he stared at the baby that screeched and walked in their direction. She was fascinated by the creatures now known as Thestrals, and wondered why everyone couldn't see them.
