34. Everything Is Different Now
UNEDITED

The two Gryffindors stared at each other for a couple of seconds before a brightening smile made its way onto Hermione's face. She stepped through the door with her suitcase behind her and shut the door.
Hope smiled lightly and walked to her bedside, where her hairbrush was. She brushed out her hair while Hermione unpacked her things, thinking lightly before snapping her fingers and changing her clothes into a pair of dark-washed jeans and a maroon-colored long-sleeved top.

When Hermione looked back at her and saw her change of clothes and dried hair she raised a brow in question before looking her over and seeing the new piece of jewelry sitting on the tribrid's wrist. The Gryffindor witch stepped toward her and raised her wrist to her face, looking intensely at the two charms on the chain that were obviously supposed to be the tribrid and Draco.
Hermione smiled softly and pulled away, "I see your Christmas was good, then?" Hope inhaled sharply and looked away from the witch. She didn't know how to tell her. After all the fighting she had done to justify her relationship with him, and now here she was barely able to comprehend that it was all for nothing.

"It- Actually I-" The tribrid took in a deep breath and sat on the top of her trunk at the foot of her bed, hands in lap, fingers laced with anticipation.
"I told him." Hermione sat on her own trunk and looked at her friend happily, "That's great, right? I bet you two are even closer now, right? After everything you two have- Wait, why don't you look happy?"
Hermione stood up from her seat on the trunk and walked until she was able to kneel in front of Hope taking her hands in hers. The question was now out in the air. It was suffocating for Hope. She didn't want to say it. She didn't want to acknowledge it. But it had to be said. It had to be said so she could accept this fate. "I told him, and he... He broke up with me, Hermione."

The tribrid looked up and into the witch's eyes with unshed tears lining the corners of her eyes. Hermione frowned and shook her head, "That- That doesn't make sense. Why would he do that? I thought you two were- Oh, Hope." Hermione saw how the tears had begun to fall from Hope's eyes and stopped herself from finishing her sentence.

She couldn't comprehend it. Why would Draco break up with her? It didn't make sense. He looked like he was on cloud nine every single time she was with him, so why?

Hope began to cry then, short whimpers leaving her every once in a while as she let Hermione take her into her arms. Before either could speak another word, the door of their shared dorm was knocked on rather urgently.
"Hope? Hope! Open the door! I've felt so uneasy these past couple of days, so please open the door!" Hope lifted her hand from under Hermione's arm and the door of the dorm opened widely, letting in a frantic-looking Harry Potter.
Ron followed behind him closely, a look of shock on his face as he saw the crying tribrid. "Hope. Hope, what happened?" Harry knelt in front of Hope, looking at Hermione for the story, but she just shook her head and rubbed Hope's back.
