Annabeth's Pov
Warnings: physical abuse

"Hurry up, Annabelle."
"That's not my name dad-"
"Shush."

My father grabbed me tightly by the wrist, dragging me out the door. He told me that we were going to the liquor store, for obvious reasons. I held back tears. I didn't know how much I could take this. At this point, it was a routine that he hit me and call me and call me names. If he kept drinking, the abuse wouldn't stop. I didn't blame him for it though. He had just lost the love of his life, my mother. He needed something to take his anger out on, and I happened to be the only thing available.
He kept dragging me to the liquor store, my wrist beginning to feel numb. He wasn't walking straight, so he was constantly bumping into benches, garbage cans, and people.

We had almost arrived, when suddenly I tripped over a rock, and brought him down with me, because he wouldn't let go of my wrist.  We tumbled to the ground, and I held back tears. My knees had two bloody scrapes, and my elbows had the same thing. He dragged me up, not making a sound.

I thought I would be okay from his wrath, but as I started to walk again he pulled out his pocket knife. My eyes widened as I started putting the pieces together.
He took the knife and dug it into my skin. I cried out in pain as he dug deeper. Blood was falling to the concrete.
I thought the pain would end when he lifted the knife, but instead he pushed me into the middle of the road. I screamed while I slid, getting more cuts and scrapes. I watched my blood fall to the floor, and my dad run fast. Thank goodness traffic wasn't heavy today.

It was only about 5 seconds, until I realized a group staring at me. It consisted of about 3 boys and 5 girls. They were walking towards The New World Stages. I felt as if I would pass out from blood loss. I blinked rapidly, fighting to stay awake. Everything was starting to get blurry.

A few seconds later, I saw two blurry figures running towards me. One was a girl with brown shoulder length hair and brown eyes, and the other was a boy who was tall, and had brown hair. I was losing conscious.
The tall boy picked me up, bridal style.
"Oh my god-" The girl with the brown hair started to say. She was breathing heavily.
"Barret, calm down. Should we take her in?"
"Well Ryan, we just found this girl laying in the middle of the road, half conscious! How do you expect me to stay calm?!" She yelled at him.
"Answer my question, should we take her in?" He asked again. I was getting sleepy.
"Yeah, obviously! Though we might need to get Charissa and Dan if we can't do the show." The girl bit her nails.
"Okay, let's set her inside one of our dressing rooms." The boy suggested.
"She can stay in mine." The girl offered, "I have a first aid kid in there." I was about to fall asleep.
"Alright, she is about to lose consciousness due to blood loss. We need to get her inside quickly." We started to move. I shut my eyes and finally fell asleep. The last thing I saw was us jogging towards the group.

*Time skip*

I woke up on a couch. My arm had bandages wrapped around them, and my scrapes had been cleaned. I stretched my arms out and began to stand up. I scanned the room and found the girl from earlier, except she was in full costume. She was wearing a white blouse and blue blazer. She also wore a plaid skirt and blue socks, paired with 80s styled shoes. I heard music being played in the background. The lyrics went something like this.
"Awh, look Heathers going to-"
"WHINE, whine, whine all night."
"You don't deserve to live."
"WHY not kill yourself?"
"Here have a sedative!"
"WHINE, whine, whine,"
"Like there's no Santa Clause! You're pathetic because you whine, you WHINE all night."
I couldn't keep listening. The song was exactly how I felt, it sounded like my anxiety was talking. I burst into tears and started to run. The girl was on her phone, and she must have heard me start crying.
She ran towards me.
"Hey, hey! It's okay. Calm down it's just a song. Come sit back down and I'll explain."
I reluctantly nodded. The girl sat down on the couch and waited for me.
I sat down with her and she put her arm around my shoulder, which instantly calmed me. I snuggled into her side. She began to speak.
"I'll start by telling you my name. I'm Barret, and the guy who carried you in is Ryan. This is the musical Heathers. Have you heard of it?"
I shook my head. I have never heard of this musical. She spoke again.
"Well, I play the lead, Veronica, meaning I won't be back here much. And- crap. Sorry I have to go. Here take my phone." She handed me her phone and ran on stage.
Instead of looking through her phone, I decided to go into the wings and watch the performance. I was shocked when I heard these lines.
"NO! NO! STOP!" Barret screamed, and pushed a girl wearing all yellow.
"Suicide is a private thing!" The girl said, but her voice was muffled, as if she had something in her mouth.
"Throwing your life away to become a U.S statistic is the least private thing I can think of!" Barret said in one breath.
"But what about Heather, Kurt, and Ram?" The yellow clad girl asked.
"If everyone jumped off a bridge, young lady,
would you?" Barret put her hand over the other girls.
"Probably." The yellow girl asked.
"If you were happy every single day of your life, you wouldn't be human. You would be a game show host." Barret said, while holding the yellow girls hand. That line made me giggle slightly. The girl in yellow pulled her knee to her chest, and objects that looked like pills fell from her mouth.
"Thanks for coming after me."
"Oh you're welcome-" Barret was cut off by the yellow clad girl attacking her with an enormous hug.
The lights dimmed and Ryan came on stage. There was some dialogue that didn't really stick out much.
I saw Barret coming closer to the wings. She said a few more lines and finally left the stage.
"Hey!" Barret exclaimed quietly.
"Hey Barret. You guys are really good." I confessed.
"Awh! Thanks. Anyways, I didn't catch your name."
"Oh, it's Annabeth. Annabeth Lynn."
"Well Annabeth, that's a beautiful name. After the show we can talk some more. I don't have to be on stage for a while, because Katie's solo is up next."
"When will I meet the whole cast?"
"After the show. We all have to go on stage in a few songs, because my song Dead Girl Walking reprise is coming up, and everyone is on stage at that point. For now, Let me introduce you to Elle and Jessica."

Barret led me to her dressing room, where the yellow clad girl from earlier stood, and a girl with a red kimono. Both girls smiled when they saw me.
"Hey, I'm Jessica!" The girl in red kimono said. She was gorgeous. She also had blonde curls with a red bow.
"And Im Elle." The girl had her hair in blonde curls as well, and on the side of her head rested a small yellow bow.

The four of us talked for a short time, and Barret, Elle, and Jessica were called to the stage. Barret waved to me, and I saw her walk on the stage, getting back into character. She was frantically walking around. Jessica and some other men started singing.
I was in the wings, and I didn't realize how scared I was to be alone. Sure, I was enjoying the show, though I had missed over half of it. But I was scared. What if my dad found me? What if I got taken away? I had just met Barret, but I was already so close to her. What if she got taken away from me?

I was so lost In my thoughts that I didn't realize what was happening on stage. The lights had just come on. I gasped at what I saw.

There Barret was, hanging from a rope. I let out a small cry and attempted to run on stage, but a member of the stage crew stopped me.
"Sh, sh. Honey it's okay. Barret is fine, it's just part of the musical. She isn't really hanging there. In fact, she is about to move." The member told me.
I was still hyperventilating. How could I trust this lady? What if Barret really was dead? What if she was just saying all this to calm me down?
Suddenly, Barret moved out of the noose, and started screaming to another lady.
"NONONO, IM SORRY IT WAS JUST A JOKE IM SO SORRY-"
"ITS. NOT. FUNNY!!" The lady banged on the staircase. I couldn't help but laugh.
Barret came down the stairs and said a few lines, then music started playing.
She was amazing, her voice was filled with emotion. At the beginning of the song, she hit this incredibly high note, and I saw a member of the stage crew smile.

After about 2 minutes, I heard Barret say, "I don't deserve to live." I gasped, but I told myself it was just part of the show. That didn't stop the tears welling in my eyes. Ryan began to speak.
"I respectfully....disagree." They both said a few lines, but something stood out to me.
"Say hi to God." Then a there was an explosion. I screamed pretty loudly. Barret must have heard, so she gave me a sympathetic smile.

Barret began singing a song the only lasted about a minute. Then the lights dimmed and the cast walked to the wings, ignoring the massive applause. I jumped into Barret's arms a nuzzled my face into her shoulder. I heard her and some other people laugh.
Barret carried me to her dressing room and sat me down.
"Ready to meet the cast?"
"Yes!"

Woah! Long chapter. This took me like 2 days. Also I have another story, but I may take it down, sense I have no motivation to continue it. I might end it quickly, but who knows. See ya!
