There is some Barret x Ryan stuff in here. Please don't get mad, Dove x Ryan shippers. I also have a book about their relationship, it's kinda like a prequel. Then the end of that story leads into this one, but I'm not finished with it, so bare with me. Lol.
Warnings: panic attacks, anxiety attacks
I woke up, and I noticed it was still dark outside. I guessed it was around 5:00 o'clock in the morning. I was about to close my eyes and go back to sleep, when I heard deep breathing coming from Barret's bed.
"R-Ryan?" I heard a panicked Barret say. I was frozen from shock, and couldn't do anything except listen.
"Shh..Barret I'm right here." Ryan spoke. He sounded like he just had woken up.
"Where is Annabeth, is she okay?" She was speaking quickly.
"Barret, calm down. She's okay. She's right there on the windowsill."
Barret sounded like she was on the verge of a panic attack. I turned over to see what was happening. Luckily, they weren't facing me.
"Ryan, please help. Im scared. I-" Barret started, but Ryan stopped her, with a kiss. I felt myself begin to gasp, but I didn't want them to know I was awake. Barret needed to adjust, she didn't need to deal with a kid right now.
Barret was lying in Ryan's arms, while he hugged her. Her head was on his shoulder, and his chin was resting on her head. They were adorable.
"Barret, I need to get a doctor." Ryan said softly.
"No, please don't leave.." Barret was about to panic. She must have been dealing with trauma.
"Barret, I have to. They need to know that you're awake."
"Please, just wait til they come in to check." The poor girl sounded desperate.
"I'll be right back." Ryan got up and left the room.
Barret began to shake slightly. She was breathing heavily. None of this woke the others.
I hated seeing her like this. She was scared to be alone, and that wasn't okay. Right as I was about to get up and give her a big hug, Ryan came in with the nurses. They turned the lights on and I heard the cast groan.
"Jesus mom, I already finished my 12 years of school!" I heard a sleepy Jessica say.
"Yeah, turn off the lights!" Alice said, still laying down.
Elle, who was fully awake, tapped them both on the shoulders. "Look who's up." Elle had a gentle smile on her face.
I heard Alice, Jessica, and Katie give small screams, and run to Barret. They were attacking her with bear hugs, and Barret gave a weak giggle.
I couldn't hold it in anymore. I stopped pretending to sleep, and jumped up. I ran too her, and everyone cleared the way. I jumped into her lap, and gave her the biggest hug. Barret rocked me, and hugged me tightly. I felt safe again. She kissed the top of my head.
"Babygirl, I missed you so much." She whispered softly. I noticed the cast smiling and taking pictures.
"I missed you too, mama." I said to her. I heard the entire cast, including Barret, gasp.
"About that.." Barret started, "Ryan, I had a gift for Annie in my car. Do you mind getting it for her?"
Ryan nodded, and walked out to get my gift.
Barret just held me tight, and refused to let go. I wasn't complaining. I loved to be held in Barret's arms. I loved feeling the warmth, and knowing that she was very much alive. I also loved knowing that I was safe, and that she loved me.
After a few minutes, Ryan came in with a box. It had a ribbon on it, making it look like a gift box. Ryan sat next to Barret, and Barret untangled herself from me. She handed me the box.
I undid the nicely done ribbon, and opened the top. I gasped, and started to break into a happy cry.
In the box revealed adoption papers, showing that Barret was now legally my mother. I went right back into Barret's arms, and sat there for a minute, not wanting to move because I was so comfortable.
The comfortable silence was ruined by the nurse coming in.
"Barret, sorry what's your last name?" The nurse asked.
"Weed." Barret replied.
"Sometimes you act like you're on it." Ryan said playfully. That earned a hit to his shoulder from Barret.
"So Ms. Barret Weed, you're being released in a few hours. Here are the clothes you came in. You're free to change." The nurse handed her the clothes and shut the door.
Barret went behind a curtain that was in the hospital room, and changed. She came back out, and sat on her hospital bed, right next to Ryan. I cuddled up next to her.
"SooOo are you guys a thing?" I asked both Ryan and Barret.
Ryan chuckled. "Surprised it took you this long to figure out. We've been together since before Heathers. We met at the auditions." Ryan squeezed her hand. Barret smiled.
"Okay, okay, we get it. Slushie Boy, and Dead Girl Walking are together. Let's watch a Heathers bootleg." Jessica said. Everyone cheered at the idea.
We turned on a bootleg on the tv, and Barret and Jessica were already screaming in disgust. Both Ryan and I were laughing hysterically, while Elle, Alice, and Katie were all laughing, clearly embarrassed.
Time skip
Soon, a song I had never heard played. It went like this.
"The Demon Queen of Highschool has decreed it. She's says-" Barret had grabbed the remote and turned off the tv.
"Uh, let's watch that another time. I don't wanna watch myself do the deed." Barret said. I didn't know exactly what she was talking about.
As if on cue, the nurse came in, and handed Barret a piece of paper. Barret nodded.
"Alright, you're free to go honey." The nurse walked out of the room. I put on my Heathers jacket, and began to whoop and holler with the rest of the cast. Everyone grabbed their stuff, and we all flooded out of the hospital.
"So, how about we meet at Barret's house for a celebration party?" Elle suggested.
"Sounds good to me." Jessica said.
Everyone nodded in agreement. I headed into the car with Barret and Ryan. While Alice, Elle, and Jessica rode together. Katie has her own car.
Ryan drove, and Barret rode with me in the backseat.
We played Rock Paper Scissors while Ryan drove us.
Time skip
We of course arrived first. Ryan ordered a pizza while we waited for the rest.
The rest of the girls ran in.
"ATTENTION!! I have an amazing movie we should watch." Jessica said.
"What?" I asked.
"Obviously the Polar Express!" Jessica exclaimed.
"Jessica, sweetie, it's the middle of June." Elle explained.
"Pfft, and you really think I care." Jessica said, putting the movie on.
We all gathered up onto the couch, me snuggled up next to Barret of course. We had popcorn and chips, which wasn't safe, considering the food was next to Ryan.
I was just minding my business, when I felt a Dorito hit my face. I look over to see none other than Ryan getting ready to chuck another chip at me.
"It's on." I threw my bowl of popcorn at him.
Time skip (small one)
In a matter of minutes, we were all covered in chip powder, and no one showed signs of quitting. I laughed to myself.
This was a new start.
This was my new family.
