Vows

She got sick.

It all honestly felt like a blur

Every treatment
All the pills
All of the sickness that came with it
Throwing up all hours of the day and night
All of the not so pleasant uncontrollable bathroom trips
All of the times I had to pick her up off the floor and hold her as she cried
When her hair fell out and she hated herself
The broken mirrors
The broken pictures
The broken dishes
The broken us

Our friends and family coming over to see her, whether it was to make her feel better or themselves that they could say they were there for us.

When she felt better
When we were told the treatments were working
The smiles
The hope

When the doctor told us she didn't stand a chance.

When the doctor told us it came back even worse.

When she decided to stop trying
When she decided she wanted to live the rest of her life not being sick

When we danced together for the last time

When we made love for the last time

When I was told to say goodbye

When the funeral came.

Twenty five years young, burying my wife.
The love of my life.
My soulmate.
The person I swore to love for the rest of my life.
The person I loved in sickness and in health.
Til death did us part.

The hardest part is, she died, but my vows still stood.

For the rest of my life there will only be her.

I'll love her until my last breath.

Because that's what happens when you meet your soulmate at a young age, marry them, and swear before god, your family, and your friends to only love them.

You never expect to have them ripped away from you before your lives can even really start.

Before you have a chance
To raise babies
To remodel the house
To go on vacations
To argue over a new purchase
To argue over the trash
To argue over the dishes in the sink

And instead you argue over
Medication
Quality of life
Determination
Suicide
Survival
