I woke up to a pounding on my front door, I groaned and got out of bed slipping on a pair of sweatpants and making my way to the door, I opened it only to find Jungkook and Tae standing there
"What are you guys doing?"
"We couldn't get a hold of you and we were worried because you were in the hospital yesterday. We brought you food too" Tae said as he held up a plastic bag with take out in it
"We know we can't come in, but we needed to make sure you were okay" Jungkook said with a small smile
I swallowed the lump in my throat and thought about what Amelia had said the night before about changing my routine and starting with small steps.
No one, and I mean no one, has been in my house since she died.
"Come on in" I said as I backed up and opened the door wide for them, they both froze and looked at me like I had ten heads
"Don't make a big deal out of this guys..please" I mumbled as I took a deep breath, they both nodded and walked into the house. They sat at the table while I made coffee, I reached for my anniversary mug that I use everyday, but stopped myself.
I grabbed a blue one from the shelf and washed the dust off of it before filling it with coffee.
"Do you guys want coffee? I'll have to wash mugs for you guys if you do..everything's dusty"
"No thanks hyung" Tae smiled up at me like a kid on christmas
"I'm okay" Jungkook said as he kept his eyes on the table and shook his head, I could tell he was trying not to comment on the fact that my house is basically a time capsule.Nothing has been moved or changed since she died.
Even the vase on the table from her flowers was still in the same spot, empty and dusty, but still where he had put it for her.
"Beautiful Kookie, thank you so much" she smiled as he hugged her and kissed her cheek
"Of course noona, they're not as pretty as you, or as cute as me, but I think they'll make you smile" he chuckled as she giggled and playfully smacked him, she didn't have any strength left as the cancer ate it up from her, so it was like being hit with a feather. He winced and pretended to be affected causing her to laugh harder until she coughed into her napkin"How are you feeling?" Tae asked as I sat down
"I'm okay" I nodded
"Hungover?" He asked as he motioned to all of the soju bottles in my recycling
"Surprisingly no, but I didn't drink all of them on my own, so don't think I have a problem"
"You weren't alone last night?" Jungkook asked with furrowed brows"I was at the bridge, drinking when one of my students sat next to me and started helping herself"
"Oh" he nodded
"Did you guys talk?"
"A bit" I noddedThere was a silence hanging over us, it was uncomfortable to say the least. I knew they both wanted to talk about Emily, to talk about the house, to pry me about Amelia and what we talked about.
But they didn't, they just tried to talk about random stuff, I kept quiet only chiming in here and there as I tried to push through the crippling anxiety flowing through my veins from having company for the first time since.
When they were both satisfied with the amount of time they spent sitting in my own personal hell hole, they hugged me and left.
I let out a sigh and went back to the table to eat the take out they had gotten me.
Silence.
The only noise to be heard was the take out container and my chewing.
I got frustrated as I sat there and ate, as close as I feel to Emily in our home, I feel so far away from everyone else.
