It's a crazy life I live. I mean, I'm secretly best friends with a band, my other best friends are getting married to each other, and I have a movie deal with Paramount Pictures. Well, I guess my secret friendship with the guys won't be so secret when that movie comes out.

A week has passed since I graduated from college and my life has only gotten more complicated since. Ponsi hasn't been able to leave me alone and stop calling me. I don't know what his problem with me living alone is. Maybe he doesn't trust Ashton or any of my other friends? All I know is that it seems like he calls me every two hours.

My phone started blaring Call It What You Want, meaning one of my friends was calling me. The guys had all set up their own ringtones when they put their numbers in my phone. So far, it looks like they had all picked Best Friend to tell me that they were calling, but, then again, only Ponsi, Mark, and Isom have called me.

I picked up my phone and saw Ashton's name across my screen. "Ashton?" I answered the call.

"Hey, Calliegh!" He greeted me wearily, as if he was having to force his cheery tone.

"What's wrong?"

"Can I come over? I have to talk to you about it in person."

"Sure, you know where I hide my spare key."

"Thanks." he replied and hung up.

I wonder what's wrong with him... I hope it's nothing big! I thought to myself as I settled into one of my chairs I keep on the platform of the fire escape outside of my window. I breathed in the cool evening air as I watched the twinkling lights of Downtown. A few minutes later, I heard my front door open and close.

"Calliegh?" Ashton's voice carried around my apartment before it leaked out my open window.

"Fire escape." I stuck my hand through the sheer curtains that covered the window with the fire escape on it.

"I should've known." Ashton a chuckled and climbed through the window to join me outside. "Want to go up to the roof?"

"You read my mind." I smiled and followed him up the stairs for ten more stories as we climbed up to the top of the fifteen-storied building. We finally made it up to the roof a few minutes later.

"It's a nice night out." Ashton smiled as we settled down on the side of the building with our feet dangling over the edge and our chins resting on the rusted railing that lined the entire roof. The owners of the building knew that people sometimes liked to go up to the roof, so they added the railing to make it safer for us.

"Yeah, it really is." I agreed and pulled my arms underneath my face. I didn't want the rust on my face. "So what did you want to talk to me about?"

"Okay, so you know how you're one of my only friends, right?"

"Um, yeah..." I wasn't so sure about where this was going.

"So I don't have a lot of people to talk to about this, you see..."

"Come on, just tell me what's on your mind!"

"My recruiting officer just came by my apartment and told me that I need to report back to Basic Training."

I stiffened, but stayed where I was. I knew freaking out would only stress Ashton out more, I know how much he doesn't want to go back to the military. "Really?" I finally asked, not taking my eyes off the glow from the sun after it dipped below the hills and mountains that surround LA.

"Yeah, I'm afraid so."

"Wow." I sighed. It didn't feel real, and I have this strange feeling in my stomach, like I'm feeling the same anxiety that he is about going back to be deployed.
