I woke up later that night. I'm not sure how much time had passed and I felt like someone had ran me over with a speeding truck. "Oh, look, Sleeping Beauty's awake." Andy snickered as he looked at me through the rearview mirror.

"Shut up, Andy!" I groaned and smacked him on the shoulder.

"Someone's grumpy!" Carlson laughed and leaned over on me. "Don't worry, you'll wake up soon!"

"I certainly hope so." I muttered and watched out the front windshield at the taillights of the bus as it continued down the deserted road in front of us.

A silence fell over us as I watched out the windows at the beautiful night sky. The stars and moon dimly lit up everything as we drove through the desert. I watched the rocky landscape flash by us, bathed in the slightly pale light of the moon and the lights that the bus gave off.

"So, was being on tour fun?" Andy asked, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, I thought it was pretty awesome. I still can't believe that this is what y'all do for every tour."

"Every tour is different, but they're usually something like this."

"That's so awesome." I nodded and changed the subject. "So, uh, where are we?"

"We had just crossed into California when you woke up, so we're just inside the state line."

"Uggggh..." I groaned and slammed my head back against the top of my seat.

"Don't worry, it'll be over soon. I know how much you want to get back to see Ashton." Rebecca smiled and put a hand on my shoulder.

"I had to stay in Arizona for another two days! I'm just ready to get back in my own bed and sleep there! It's way better than a car seat!" I giggled.

"It'll go by quickly!" Roxi turned around and smiled at me.

"Good." I nodded and looked down at my phone. I had no new texts, but I really wanted to talk to Ashton to see how he's doing trapped in LA with Dustin. It really sucked that he had called Ashton back to LA so quickly. I wonder if he's able to text... I thought to myself. Ah, what the heck? It wouldn't hurt to try. I decided to text him. I readjusted myself in my seat as I texted him and waited for a response.

It was when I was waiting when I first heard the noise. I didn't realize what it was at first, it was only when there was a sudden loud burst of the sound when it registered. Gunfire. I wasn't sure of what to think of the shots. I was used to the sound from Texas, I was a hunter and people would just shoot randomly throughout the day and night in their yards at targets. That's probably what someone's doing, they're probably just doing target practice in the desert, but that would be a lot of shots for practice.

I started to laugh nervously. "That's a lot of gunshots..."

"Don't worry, it's going to be okay." Rebecca smiled tightly at me.

I was about to answer when there was one last shot rang out in the still air. The sight that followed that lone shot made my poor little heart stand still. The bus suddenly swerved hard to the left and then tried to correct itself, but only succeeded in flipping over on its side. Andy slammed on the brakes hard, pitching everyone in the car forward as we watched in silent horror as the bus skidded across the road. Bright sparks flew from the metal of the bus and illuminated the desert and its surroundings for several feet in every direction. The bus continued to skid for several hundred feet before it finally came to a stop, completely blocking the road. As soon as the sparks were gone and there was no more lights, I heard the distinctive sounds of dirt bikes starting up. The engines revved and sped off until the crackling noise was gone in the distance.
