[December 22, 1998
3 Days Until Christmas]

*Scene: BEDROOM*
[D sleeping in bed. Closet wall visible]✔️

[R suddenly appears, startling D as he shakes him awake]
R: Don! Wake up!
D: GAH! What???✔️

med shot/closeup of R leaning in as D tries to sleep]
R: Do you hear that?
D: Yeah? So?
R: Shouldn't we go investigate?
D: Why?
R: Well, you suggested it last night, so I was just wondering ✔️

[same shot. R smiles]
R: Come on! Adventure sounds fun. I'm going to go whether you come with me or not
D: ✔️

[same shot. D rests his head on his pillow and closes his eyes]
*Task: Investigate the grinding noise
D: Okay✔️

*Scene: HALLWAY*
[boys walk down hall]
D: That noise... sounds weird
R: Well duh. That's why I wanted to see where it was coming from.
R: Wait! We should see if your mom is up. Strength in numbers and she may know what to do✔️

[R knocks on door. No answer. D looks unamused]
R: Nothing
D: Not sure what you were expecting✔️

*Scene: BASEMENT]
[lights are completely out. Boys looks down hall at edge where it turns and leads to the small hall before opening up to main area]
R: It's dark
D: Great observation
R: It wasn't dark before
D: Yes, that's how lights work
R: But they don't work. Not yours, anyways
D: Neither do the lights in your brain✔️

[closeup of R and D. D looks to R as R holds up flashlight]
D: You still got that flashlight on you?
R: Yep✔️

[Wide shot of main area. Flashlight cuts through the dark. R leads the way as D follows behind. Grinding noise continues]
R: It sounds like it's coming from over here

[Side door near the chair is open. D and R stop]
R: This wasn't open last night, was it?
D: I don't think so✔️

[inside small area. R peeks and D follows, flashlight illuminating]

[they spot her, but she isn't seen yet, flashlight lowered. Grinding stops]
R: Oh my—
D: What the—

[mama's silhouette as R and D look over her, the flashlight lighting everything up. Could be the cover]✔️

[show mama]

[closeup of R and D]
R: I dare you to touch it
D I'm not touching that thing! Why would i touch it?
R: I dunno. We came all this way. What do we do now?
D: Leave it alone???✔️

[wider shot]
R: It stopped making that noise
D: Yeah. Which means we got what we came here for and should leave
R: And leave this thing here?
D: We can lock the door
R: It was locked before

[closeup D goes quiet and looks at M. R watches him]

[the wide shot. Both boys look at M]
R: Is that a cassette tape?
D: Where?

[show cassette near M]
D: Oh. Yeah, it is
R: You should play it
D: Where?

[the wide shot as D leans down, and R points at M]
R: I mean... that thing looks like it could fit the tape
D: I guess it's worth a shot

[side view of M as D loads cassette tape into M]

[Music plays up, coming from M as the story starts]
