"Hey! How was your weekend?" Naomi asked, greeting me as I stepped through the doors of my bakery.
"It was good." Already feeling myself blush with a lovesick smile sneaking through. "Thanks for asking, how was yours?"
"It was good..but yours seems like it was better than good..." she gave me her devious look seeing right through me so I spent the morning spilling it all.
"OH MY GOD!" she shouted on the top of her lungs getting the attention from some customers before I made her pipe down. "You're in love!" whisper-shouting.
"I have strong feelings for him...yes...ok, I might be in love! But, I have to screw my head on right, Naomi, we haven't known each other very long!"
"So what! Love is love! It doesn't matter how long or with who or anything like that."
"But his life is...complicated, you know! I mean what about Sophie? What if things don't work out?"
"You need to stop stressing out about the what if's and just enjoy being in the moment. Your weekend with them was perfect."
"Ms. Wylde? Someone bought the last peppermint meringue christmas tree and we're out of stock on peppermint extract."
"Out of stock? I thought you checked the inventory?"
"I must've forgotten to check for those ingredients," she answered shyly bowing her head assuming I'd be upset.
"Oh, that's alright. I'll make something else instead then."
"O-oh, o-ok. I'm sorry again, Ms. Wylde."
"Don't be. It gives me a chance to make something new," I said happily, putting on my apron and tying it in the back.
With the competition only a week away and Christmas Eve a few days behind the competition, I had gingerbread on my mind. I found myself grabbing butter, brown sugar, and molasses and mixing it together with the dry ingredients. I wasn't even focused on baking anything in particular when I rolled out the dough and began cutting the shapes. I just felt myself having fun as I was lost in my thoughts with a smile on my face thinking of the two new people in my life. How happy they make me, what crazy things they'd have me do next?
I kept up those mindless thoughts and soon started piping, decorating, and building.
"What are you doing?" Naomi came in the kitchen and stopped dead in her tracks staring at my work in disbelief.
"I thought I'd make a gingerbread christmas tree!" I said, shrugging my shoulders but she kept staring like a deer in headlights.
"What? You don't like it?"
"I-I, no...I mean, I do! It's just that...you would never usually make something like that."
"Well, we've been making a lot of gingerbread bread lately for practice but I thought this would be different.
"Yeah...it's definitely different."
