I remember the first day my family and I arrived in England. We were escorted to the country house of Lady Catherine by horse guard and coach after abandoning ours on the outskirts of London. I was only 10 and untrained in the art of defence when my family arrived at the great house. My mother was English but my father, my sister and I were German and didn't speak much English. So she had to do most of the initial talking, but it didn't take long for us to learn the basics of English. Lady Catherine's family were so kind to us for those first few years during the time I got to be good friends with her daughter and her nephew Fitzwilliam Darcy, whom I had no idea was so attractive.
