Love and Hate

When we stepped into the prison, the first thing that was done was empty the bag out and find the place where the things would go.

We were the first ones back and the prison was empty. While unpacking the bag, Carl and I learned a few things about each other.

"What's your favorite color," Carl asked.

"Red," I said while putting a can of soup on the shelf, "What's yours?"

"Orange."

The conversation went on like that for another ten minutes or whenever Daryl walked through the door.

He was covered in blood and was carrying nothing.

"Damn Walkers. I didn't get a damn thing out there." Daryl muttered.

Then he walked into the main room and saw the haul that Carl and I were unpacking.

I pulled out a pair of jeans and a shirt out of the clothes bag and handed them to him. He nodded and took them to the bathroom to change.

The next people that came in were Glenn and Maggie. I guessed that they were on the run together instead of by themselves. They came into the main room and placed their small findings next to me and Carl and walked out to do who knows what.

By the time that we were finished, everybody was back and sitting in the main room. Glenn and Maggie were sitting next to each other and having a small, quiet talk that couldn't be overheard. Daryl was teaching Beth how to play poker in the corner of the room and Rick was looking at the newly stocked food.

"You guys did a nice job."

Carl and I nodded out thanks and then walked to our cell.

"You should really talk to your dad more," I said.

He gave me a weird look,"What makes you think that I don't talk to him."

"I don't know. You guys don't say more than two words to each other when you actually do talk. And then what you said back at my house. You think that he doesn't understand you but you don't take the effort to actually talk to him."

He sighed,"Well, it's kind of hard to talk to someone who thinks that you're a monster."

We were almost at the cell but I stopped short and stood in front of him. He looked down so that we were eye to eye.

I said,"You're not a monster and you need to stop thinking like that. We all have to do things that other people don't like but they need to build a bridge and get over it because once it's done, there is no going back."

He leaned down and kissed me.

I still didn't know what to say or do after a kiss so it was always awkward.

"Um, do you want to come meet Jacob?" I asked.

He nodded and then I looked around me, slightly embarrassed,"Uh, where is the nursery?"

He let out a small chuckle and then grabbed my hand. He led me to the nursery where we found two babies. Just our luck that they were both sleeping.

Carl led me to the sleeping little girl and whispered,"This is my sister, Judith."

She was so beautiful and looked so peaceful. I looked up at her big brother and smiled.

I walked over to Jacob and said,"This is my little brother."

"Hello, Jacob," Carl murmured as he used his forefinger to rub the small child's hand. Jacob grabbed Carl's finger and squeezed.

I looked at both of them and thought that they would have a really good bond when Jacob became older.

Carl then grabbed my hand again and together, we walked back to the cell.

Carl walked to his side of the room and took off his hat. He glanced over at me and I quickly averted my gaze when I realized that I had been staring.

He walked over to the border line and made a big show of stepping over the line. I laughed and then quickly covered my mouth.

I hadn't laughed in weeks. Not a pure, genuine laugh that symbolized actual joy. There had been no reason to laugh because so many things were being taken from me. Now that things were finally being given to me, it seemed like the perfect time to let out some happiness.

Carl came over to me and sat on my bed. He lifted his hand and removed mine from my mouth,"It's okay to laugh. That's the only thing that is going to keep us okay in this world. Laughter is the key to happiness and that's what we are going to have to deal with for a little while."

I sighed against his lips as he pressed them against mine. He lifted his hand and ran his long fingers through my light, brown hair. The kiss had intensified as it quickened and became more sloppy.

I pushed Carl down so that we were both lying on the bed.

Then we heard,"What the hell are you two doing?"

Carl and I jumped apart and felt the heat rise in our cheeks.

Rick was standing at the door with Beth, Maggie, Daryl and Glenn standing around him.

Carl recovered quicker than I did,"What are you doing here?"

Everybody except Rick was smiling,"I asked what you were doing."

Carl scoffed,"Why would you care? You see me as a monster anyway. Why should anything that I do bother you anymore? We all know that I do whatever I want now after I killed Mom."

All the smiles disappeared and I could tell by the look on Rick's face that Carl's outburst and stunned him.

Rick said,"I just came in here to congratulate the two of you for finding so much for us and I see you swallowing her."

It came out as a yell and it startled everyone. It seemed like Rick and Carl thought they were the only ones in the room.

"Yeah, well, it doesn't matter, right? I'm not the same as I was before this damn apocalypse and neither are you. We all changed and mine was the worse of them all. I murdered my mother. So why don't you just leave me to what I do best. Being a monster."

Rick sighed,"You're not a monster."

He turned to leave the room,"I just don't know who you are anymore."

Author's Note: Okay. One thing. Carl and Jocelyn were not going to do the dirty. They're just 15. That would be gross if they did. :(  They were just laying down to do that cute thing that couples do and then after kissing they, I don't know, cuddle or something. Oh and thanks for reading my story. It means a lot. Luvs ya  ~Miki
