ANd let's not forget that McGucket mentions his mind has been broken for '30 odd years'?!(when he fell in the portal and saw Bill? I'm guessing here.)

THE SHAPE SHIFTER SAYS 'THAT SIX FINGERED NERD HASN'T BEEN HIMSELF IN 30 YEARS'

AND THE FEDS SAY THEY HAVEN'T SEEN 'READINGS' LIKE THESE IN 30 YEARS.

OK. MY THEORY IS SORTA THE TWIN STAN THEORY , BUT LESS FOCUSED ON THAT.

IN THE EPISODE WHERE STAN FINALLY GOT ALL THE BOOKS TOGETHER HE SAYS , " FINALLY WEVE GOT THEM ALL AGAIN." NOTICE THE WORD "WE" WE IS REFERRING TO TWO OR MORE PEOPLE. COULD TWO PEOPLE BE HIM AND HIS BROTHER ? THIRTY YEARS BEFORE THEY COULD HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE TO FINISHING WHAT EVER HAD TO DO WITH THEIR PROJECT , A FREAK ACCIDENT COULDVE HAPPENED CAUSING THEM TO QUIT AND THE OTHER BROTHER LEAVE.
I THINK THE CAUSE WAS BILL CIPHER.

Also , we should talk about how terrified Stan is after first seeing the wax model that Mabel made of himself. It's a bit of an overreaction. You know, like he'd just seen a ghost or someone from his past that he thought he'd never see again...

While we're at it, can we also talk about how much he cared for that statue, and seemed very devastated at its head being cut off, giving it a funeral and even running out in tears during the eulogy...?

Twin Pines Theory: (x) (unsure who to credit for this theory, I will assume prettyinpwn)

I shall pick up where prettyinpwn left off. A summary of their theory about Stanford and Stanley, the Twin Pines Theory (TPT), is that Stanford has a twin brother called Stanley.

We will assume that this theory is correct.

HOWEVER. There are a few things wrong with that theory - or at least, we know them to be now, whereas at time of writing they were correct. Those will be addressed later during the post.

To address one thing now, though... In the TPT, McGucket is theorised to be the author. However, we now know that that is not the case, that McGucket was in fact WORKING with the author, instead of being the author himself.

Assuming the TPT to be correct, and McGucket worked with Stanley (Lee)... We can therefore conclude that STANLEY PINES is the author of the journals.

I'll address why and how that's almost definitely the case later in the post.

But the question we will ULTIMATELY be trying to answer in this post is WHAT IS THE PORTAL, AND WHY IS STANFORD TRYING TO OPEN IT???

To answer this question, we must split it into separate parts, and take ourselves back in time. We must ask...

Who built the portal?
What does the portal do?
Why did they build it?
...

Wow. That's a lot of questions (well, three. But it takes a LONG time to answer them).

Right. So let's start at the beginning, what is the portal, and who built it? (To answer questions 1 & 2, there's a lot of evidence that applies to both)

Well, first of all, we know it's a portal. That we can be pretty certain of. From what we see in the credits scene of 2x07, it is a portal that transports things somewhere.
