It had been a long time since Kevin had felt fear like this. He'd felt fear when he was a little boy, and was scared to go on the haunted hayride at Halloween.
He'd felt fear when he was a young teen, and had gone to a Six Flags park, when he'd never ridden such big roller coasters.
But this was not a fear of harm to his body. This was not a fear of having his feeling hurt. This was a fear of his very soul, permeating every cell in his body and thought in his mind.
It felt more like a dream, more like a nightmare than the horrible dreams he had been plagued with lately.
He averted his face as he heard muffled audio coming from the phone.
"Kelsy?" a voice said a few moments later.
"Kelsy, are you okay?" the voice asked again.
"No... no...," Kevin muttered, "just... leave me alone."
"It's okay Kelsy, I don't know what you're dealing with, but I'm sure everything will be alright."
"Kevin."
"What?" the girl said.
"My name is Kevin, not Kelsy."
He said the last word with a derisive sneer.
"Can I see your face... Kevin?"
Kevin debated in his mind. He owed nothing to this stranger. No... that was a lie. He... had deceived her.
He turned his face to face the camera.
The girl on the phone looked older than him, maybe in her late twenties. She looked upon him with surprise.
"Not what you expected," he said, in a somewhat heated tone, "was it?"
"I... I guess not," the girl said. "But I was also expecting you could've been a forty year old guy, so..."
Ah yes. That's what she was expecting. She was expecting a cliche pervert. No, that's not how the devil deceived people. He tempted people like Kevin, unassuming people to do his dirty deeds.
"...Kevin?"
"Leave me alone," he said. "You do not want to talk to me."
The girl was silent for a few moments, then spoke up again.
"Look," she said, "I know I'm just some nobody on the internet - I'm Brita by the way, but I've talked to you a bunch, and you seem like a nice enough guy."
Kevin huffed deep breaths, in and out. "Oh... nice enough? I seem nice enough? Well you're right about that one. I seem like a lot of things. But when you pull back my guise, I'm not nice. I'm not good. I'm a pervert."
Kevin's mind and mouth were running with little direction now. His anger, stress, and depression were only looking for an outlet to burst out of.
"What... what are you talking about?" Brita asked.
"You think any of things I said were true?" Kevin said, "They aren't. All I was doing was seeking to satisfy my twisted mutated kinks. I lied to you. All because I get turned on by thinking of myself as a girl."
Shock appeared on Brita's face. "I.... what? Seriously?"
"Yeah," Kevin scowled, "the only reason I talk to you, or any of the people on the server is because I'm a filthy pervert, looking for the slightest way to get me more horny."
"I can't believe this," Brita said, her eyes watering, "you... you really..."
"Lied to you? Manipulated you? Treated you like..."
