From the castle roof, Blake could see it all. The town seemed to spread out below her like a small quilt, with only a few lights here and there to break up the darkness. A gentle breeze blew in from the coast, causing her hair to shift slightly in the wind.
Blake sighed slightly as she stretched.
She'd seen some beautiful places while she was away but there was nothing quite like being home.
The shattered moon shone brightly overhead, bathing the whole scene in a soft, calming light.
Blake heard footsteps on the roof behind her and turned slightly, half expecting to see Jason walking towards her.
Instead, it was Yang, brushing some of her long, golden hair out of her face as she walked towards her.
Blake smiled and gestured for yang to sit next to her on the edge of the roof.
After a moment, the blonde spoke, her voice quiet.
"You doing alright?"
Blake nodded.
"Yeah. Just, enjoying being home."
Yang raised an eyebrow.
"Anything else?"
Blake Paiutes for a moment before she responded.
"It's just... once we find Salem, all this peace will end."
Yang put an arm around her friend's shoulders.
"And once we defeat her, the world can be at peace."
Blake sighed.
"I guess."
The two sat there for a moment, gazing out at the village. A few more lights blinked out in the center of town, another shop closing for the night.
"Thanks Yang... for coming with us."
The blonde grinned.
"You kidding? Getting to visit a place like this? Wouldn't miss it for the world!"
Then Yang's expression softened and her tone became more quiet.
"Of course I went with you, Blake. Friends 'till the end, right?"
Blake smiled.
"Yeah."
The two hugged each other briefly before Yang stood up.
"Alright. I'm gonna go get my nightly training in. See ya inside."
"See you in a bit."
Blake replied, watching as Yang made her way back to the small hatch in the castle's roof, before going back inside.
She turned her attention back to the picturesque view in front of her, watching as the waves lapped against the shore, as a small sailboat slid silently to the shore.
A hawk circled high in the night sky, before coming to land a few feet from her on the roof.
Looking at the bird, Blake smiled, noting the scar-shaped white mark under one of its eyes.
"Well hello to you too."
Blake said with a small laugh as, with a quick flash of blue light, Jason returned to his normal, cat Faunus, form.
He grinned as he sat down next to her.
"Glad to see you're getting used to your new abilities."
Blake said, resting her head on his shoulder.
Jason nodded.
"Yeah. The hawk form could be incredibly useful for any recon work."
"Always thinking like a soldier."
Blake said, smiling softly as Jason put an arm around her.
Jason looked at her.
"It's what I am."
Blake kissed his cheek gently.
"I know"
There was a short silence.
"How long do you think until they find where Salem is?"
Jason glanced off into the night sky for a moment as he thought.
"Hard to say. Not too much longer though. The thing that worries me though is that we've got to be ready for one hell of a battle when we do find her."
Blake nodded.
"We'll figure out a way to beat her. We have to,"
"I know."
Jason said, holding Blake's hand gently as the two sat there, enjoying the peace while it lasted.
