Jason grunted as the dull edge of the practice sword slammed into his side, causing him to slip a little on the wet grass.
"Well done."
He said, panting slightly.
Kylara Belladonna Creek grinned at her father as she returned the practice sword to its sheath.
It was her first day of winter vacation and, accordingly, her first time coming home from Beacon Academy.
Following the end of the war, the school had been rebuilt and opened to students once again.
Both Kylara and Jason glanced up the lawn to the back door of the castle as Blake emerged, setting a tray of tea and cookies down on a small table at the edge of the veranda.
The two wipes sweat from their brows as they headed up the hill towards the veranda and, after depositing the training gear by the steps, sat down.
Blake smiled at her daughter as Kylara took a sip of her tea.
The resemblance between the two was certainly noticeable now, with Kylara's flowing black hair and matching black cat ears, although she had inherited Jason's strong build.
"So,"
Blake asked, smiling slightly as she sipped her tea.
"How was your first term at Beacon."
Ky beamed as she set down her cup.
"It was great! My team is great and I'm doing really well in classes."
Jason chuckled.
"I always said you take after your mother."
Blake blushed slightly, placing a hand on Jason's.
Kylara glanced through the open door into the castle beyond.
"Where's Thad?"
Thaddeus Creek, the older of the two Creek twins, had managed to come home a day earlier as he'd finished classes before Kylara had.
"He's upstairs,"
Jason replied as he took a long sip of his tea.
"Probably in his room with Ralya, I expect."
Kylara hid her grin by taking another sip of tea.
Ralya Silverheart was a fellow cat faunus that Ky had managed to set her brother up with a few months before they left for Beacon.
When Kylara placed her teacup back on the tray, she glanced at her mother.
"I meant to ask you,"
She said in as offhanded a tone as possible,
"Is it alright if I invite one of my friends over for a few nights? He's a teammate of mine and he's always wanted to see Menagerie."
Something in the way she said it made Blake smile. She raised an eyebrow.
"Friend?"
Kylara blushed slightly.
"Okay fine, boyfriend. Damien Phoenix. He's a cat faunus and... we kinda went to the school dance together... and on some dates."
Jason smiled at his daughter.
"Any friend of yours is always welcome in our home."
"Now come on,"
Blake said, standing up as Jason picked up the tea tray.
"You should probably go rest. We've got your aunt Yang and aunt Talia coming over for dinner in a few hours."
Smiling happily, Kylara followed her parents back into the castle.
