Blake lay on the roof of the house, listening to the sounds of the forest. The air around her was still apart from a light breeze. The roof's tiles felt cool against the fabric of her clothing as she lay there, watching a small bird fly up from a rock on the ground and come to rest on the branch of a nearby tree.
She heard the noise of someone else climbing onto the roof. She didn't even need to look to know who it was.
Jason yawned slightly as he lay down beside her.
"Couldn't sleep?"
He asked, his voice quiet, as if trying not to disturb the silence around them.
Blake nodded.
Jason let a hand run slowly through her hair, causing her to smile softly.
"Can you feel that?"
Jason asked.
Blake knew what he meant. She nodded.
"It's like the whole world is waiting for something to happen."
She paused for a moment, listening to a stream flowing somewhere in the distance.
"It's what I like about being awake before dawn. You get to experience the world while it's still asleep."
Jason nodded and looked up at the stars above them.
The whole world was quiet... waiting.
