Ira
I was tired, very tired. It's been two days since I told Kostas to stay away and I cried my eyes out afterward. I didn't want to tell him that, but I had no choice. These monstrous people threatened him...
They threatened my friend...

He was making me mad now. He refused to cooperate with me and I was getting frustrated. My dad was not helping the situation either...
"What do you mean that cashews come from a fruit?!" my dad yelled at the lunatic chained to the floor in front of us.
"Exactly that! Are you dumb?!" the lunatic yelled.
I had my arms folded and I was pinching the bridge of my nose with my eyes closed. Both of these old men were driving me crazy, and they were also annoying the rest of the pack members here. They were having this conversation and many like them for the past hour or two.
"That's not right you idiot! Nuts are not part of the fruit family!" Dad said, leaning forward from his chair that was placed in front of the man on the floor. Both of the old men were crazy and looked like senior citizens who were delirious talking about made up things.
I needed the old man to tell me the weaknesses of Kostas' pack, but he kept changing the subject and dad was trying to forcefully make him tell, yet that clearly wasn't working.
"Alright!" I shouted, finally reaching the end of my rope. "Will you two just shut up! I've had enough of this! You," I said, pointing to my dad, "aren't even supposed to be here!"
He looked unfazed by my yelling as he said calmly, "Rick, go for a walk to calm down. You don't understand how us old men are conducting business."
I sighed heavily in frustration. "Fine! Just hurry up so I can go kill that girl."
With that said, I walked out of the room and then out of the building all together. I stormed over to the small hut that led down to our holding cells, and I waved the guards off to leave. They nodded and ran off to the house. I stomped down the steps and told the other guards to leave me and Ira alone.
She slowly looked up at me and she was in awful shape. Her face was dirty and red and her clothes were caked in mud and dried blood. My father had the crazy idea to teach her not talk back to us by throwing her in the training grounds when it rained yesterday and she was beaten terribly. That's when I had a realization.
"Want some water?" I asked her.
She only nodded slowly and I filled a cup full and then opened her cell door. Ira was still chained to the wall and ground so I left the door open as I brought the cup of water to her. I sat down beside her and slowly brought the cup up for her to drink. She drank it slowly to savor it, and a drop fell down her chin. When she was done, I put the cup beside me as I sat beside the poor human.
"You know he'll come for you, even though you said those things," I told her.
"I know," she said, hugging her knees to her chest.
"You didn't have to say those things to him, they wouldn't have hurt me."
She sighed and nodded. "I know, but...I was afraid for you."
I looked at her surprised. "Afraid for me? You should've been afraid for you! My father can be ruthless and his temper is iffy."
"I know, he's just like my dad. My dad was an alcoholic and had a bad temper, but he never hurt me or my mom, that is, until she died."
I didn't know that her father was a drunk, but I did know her mom died, and I felt bad for her. I've known Ira for a while, but she didn't really know me that well. She didn't know that my name was Holloway, she just knew it as Rick, and she had no idea that there were such things as werewolves until she met Kostas. I first met Ira in fifth grade and we were almost inseparable until my dad forced me to leave that school and be homeschooled with the rest of the pack, but I sent a few emails to Ira through the years.
I scooted closer to her and she rested her head on my shoulder and I wrapped an arm around her. I wanted her out of here, I didn't want to hurt her.
"I'm sorry," I quietly said to her.
"It's alright," she responded.
"No, I'm sorry about what's happened to you. You used to take care of everyone in school and now there's no one to take care of you."
She shook her head against my shoulder. "That's not true. I have Kostas, and Cristy, and their pack...and I also have you."
I looked down at her in shock. She smiled back at me. She still thought of me as a friend, even though we aren't that close and that my pack kidnapped and abused her. I felt tears in my eyes, but I looked away and blinked. I felt her chuckle but she didn't say anything. We sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, just enjoying each other's company.
"Do you know when they'll kill me?" Ira suddenly asked.
I sighed. "They're planning to do it tomorrow."
"How?"
I sighed agin. "Ira, no one truly wants to know about their death."
"I do. I want to know how I will die."
"You won't die," I finally said, turning her toward me and we stared in each other's eyes for a long moment. "I won't let that happen Ira! I promise you that."
"But you-"
"I'm the alpha," I smirked, "not my dad. He fully passed it on to me so he can't to anything against me. I should've realized that sooner, but I didn't, and you paid the price for that."
Ira slowly smiled. "It's a price I'm happy to pay."
I stared at her in surprise. Why would she be happy to be beaten and hurt if it made me realize I could stop it? Was she delirious?
Ira caught the question in my eyes and said, "I don't mind making sacrifices for people I care about. I just hope that one day they'll return the favor."
I smiled at her and embraced her in a hug. I was so glad that I was her friend, I had so little here in the pack despite me being alpha. This would be a new beginning, but first...I had to set one friend free.
The chains around Ira's waist and arms fell off.
