*FLASHBACK*

''What makes you happy?'' Steve questioned, standing in front of me as we trained.

''Food,'' I mumbled, shrugging my shoulders.

We were testing out new ways to get me to control my powers. To keep calm in hard situations.

Steve rolled his eyes at my response.

''No, I want you to dig down deep. Finding something calming, whether it be a person or place. Whenever you find it, concentrate on it. Think of how it calms you and makes you happy.

I nodded my head, sitting down in front of him. Closing my eyes shut, I searched in the deep parts of my mind for a calming and happy source.

A calming neon traveled up my veins, as I had found it. A smile appeared on my face.

I felt relaxed, I felt calm, I felt happy

I opened my eyes, with a sense of relief, covering over me.

''You did it,'' Steve smiled, pulling me into a hug.

We all stood waiting as Bruce got the machine ready.

''Remember, you have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them, otherwise, you're going to open a bunch of nasty alternatives,'' Bruce explained to Steve, looking over the stones.

I stood there watching the two, with my hands shoved into my pockets. I didn't want to believe what was coming next.

''Don't worry Bruce, I'll clip all the branches,'' Steve told him.

''You know I tried. When I had the gauntlet and all the stones, I tried to bring her back... I miss her man,'' Bruce sighed, looking down. ''Me too,'' Steve gives a small smile.

Steve grabbed the box before walking over to the machine with the stones.

''You know. if you want, I can go with you,'' Sam walked next to Steve. ''You're a good man Sam. This one on me though,'' Steve told him, before walking over to where Bucky and I stood.

The odd thing was that Steve never told Bucky about this but by the look of Bucky, he already knew what his best friend was about to do.

Bucky looked up with a glum face.

''Don't do anything stupid till I get back,'' Steve told him.

Bucky smirked at Steve's words.

''How can I? You're taking the stupid with you,'' Bucky responded.

''I'm gonna miss you, buddy,'' Bucky added. ''It's gonna be okay Buck,'' Steve told him.

The two wrapped each other up into a hug. My heart broke a little at the sight of it. Bucky took a step back before Steve moved on me.

He two wrapped each other up into a hug. My heart broke a little at the sight of it. Bucky took a step back before Steve moved on to me.

He couldn't get any words out before I hugged him, nearly knocking him over from the force.

Sam was probably very confused at the moment being exchanged right now. As far as he was concerned, Steve would be back in a few seconds.

''You be careful out here,'' He softly spoke.

''I'm really going to miss you, Steve,'' I mumbled into his shoulder. ''I really hope you find that happiness,'' I pulled back looking at him with a smile.

''I'm not a sappy person, so here's this,'' Steve pulled a note out of his pocket, handing it over to me. I grabbed the note putting it in my pocket.

''Stay safe,'' I told him as he hopped up onto the machine.

He put on the quantum suit, grabbing the hammer with his free hand.

''How long is this gonna take?'' Sam asked Bruce. ''For him as long as he needs. For us, five seconds.''

I let out a long shaky breath, trying my hardest to keep the tears out of my eyes. Bucky wrapped his arms, comforting around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.

''Going quantum in 3... 2... 1,'' with that Steve disappeared.

I lowered my head.

''And coming back in 5... 4...3...2...1,'' Bruce spoke but nothing happened. Bruce looked down at control panels confused.

''Where is he?'' Sam asked in an urgent voice.

''I don't know, he blew right by his time stamp,'' Bruce explained.

Bucky let go of me and began walking towards the lake, but I paid no attention.

''Get him back!'' Sam demanded.

''I'm trying,'' Bruce responded.

''Just get him the hell back,''

''Sam,'' Bucky's voice broke the tension.

Everybody turned to turn to where Bucky was. I swallowed the lump in my throat walking forward.

In front of us sat an old man, sat on the bench in front of the lake. I didn't need to look any closer out who it was.

I couldn't tell if this was a good sight or a bad one. Good being, he went and lived the life he always wanted. Or bad being that he was now old and practically unless to us.

Bucky looked over at Sam, nodding for him to forward.

Bucky and I stayed back, out of earshot, watching the two talk.

Bucky wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close to him. My head rested on his shoulder as teared welled in my eyes.

This whole war with Thanos has really brought out the emotional side of me, and I'm not really sure if I like it.

We couldn't hear the conversation, but Steve could be seen taking a shield out of a bag and handing it to Sam. My eyes widened a bit at the action.

Once again I didn't know whether to be happy or sad. Happy because Sam was getting this big opportunity and Steve was passing off the sheld. Or sad because Steve was passing off the shield.

It was going to be way weird living in a world without  Iron-Man or Steve as Captain America.

Sam looked back at us hesitantly.  Bucky gave him an affirming nod.

the two shook hands. A small smile spread across my face.

It really was the end of the story.
