Chapter Nineteen

Jack made sure both Angelina and Beth were okay before they made their way through the field. They were quick on their feet but Beth was extra careful as if she fell then Angelina was coming down with her and that is something she wished to greatly avoid. The place was so noisy and she wanted to look around to see if everyone she knew was okay but that would be very risky. They just had to keep their heads down and get to the car quickly.

They reached the car without anyone else getting hurt and Jack took Angelina from Beth knowing she would be helping Liam. Noah jumped into the driver's seat as Andrew helped Beth get Liam into the back of the car. Once the car had started, she took a look at Liam. He had been shot in the chest and she was already scared about that. He was struggling to gain breath and they were nowhere near help at this point. Liam looked at Beth as if he knew what was going on.

Beth cleaned up the blood and tried to stop the bleeding but this wasn't really the problem. His lung had been punctured and she didn't have the tools to help him. Without help, this would be fatal.

"How is he?" Andrew asked, looking at Beth's face for an answer.

Beth looked at him without an answer. She really didn't want to say what she thought was going to happen, it would break too many hearts.

"This is it, isn't it?" Liam tried to whisper into her ear

Beth looked at him with teary eyes. He and Beth both knew that his life was ending tonight. She nodded at him and he took her hand and squeezed it.

"Its okay" Liam said "It was worth it, you and Jack have your princess back"

"I'm so sorry Liam" Beth whispered as she kissed his hand "You're an amazing man and this shouldn't have happened to you"

"I'm happy this is the way I'm dying" Liam said

"You're not dying" Jack said from the front seat

Andrew tapped his shoulder and nodded which made Jack's face drop. He knew and now he was feeling the panic. Noah began to ask what was going on and the car filled with a state of panic as Liam slowly died on Beth's lap.

The car pulled over to the side of the road and Noah and Jack climbed out of the car. Noah opened the door at Beth's side and helped her out of the car without hurting Liam. Andrew got out too and they all stepped to the side of the car.

"Whats going on?" Jack asked

"He has a punctured lung and I don't have the equipment to help him and we're not close to equipment, I don't think he is going to make it" Beth said

"Are you sure?" Noah asked

"Yeah, I'm sorry, I think you should say your goodbyes now" Beth said

"I can't believe this" Jack said

"Here, give me Angelina" Beth said taking her from him "Go say goodbye"

All three boys went back into the back of the car as Beth stood outside with Angelina. She wanted to give them their privacy to say goodbye to their best friend who was basically like their brother. It broke her heart that this would be the last time that they would have a conversation with him. He was a hero and his words would be forever with Beth. He was happy he died this way, he died helping them get Angelina back and he's leaving the world an amazing man that will never be forgotten.

The car door opened and Beth could hear Liam telling the boys he loved them. Jack walked over to Beth with tears in his eyes and opened his arms for her to hug him. She hugged him with Angelina as he let a few tears fall. Noah was hugging Andrew by the car and Beth assumed that Liam had left them.

"Is he gone?" Beth asked

Jack nodded and turned to the car. Noah and Andrew were moving his body to the very back seat of the large car so they could drive home comfortably.

The car for the rest of the drive was quiet. Everyone was upset and Beth didn't think anyone really expected someone to die, never mind someone so close to their hearts.

"He is a hero" Jack said breaking the silence in the car

"He died helping save his best friends child and he seemed delighted about that" Noah said

"We're proud of him" Andrew said

"We need to celebrate his life, don't be sad over it" Beth said

The car went back to silent as they continued home. It wouldn't be long before Jack and Beth would be home with their baby again. Once they were home and settled again, they would need to let everyone know what happened and make sure everyone else is okay. They owed their life's to everyone now for helping them get their family back together. Without everyone's help, it may not have worked. They would also need to bury Liam and celebrate his life and everything he has done. He deserved to go out on a high note.
