When Beth woke up the next morning she was expecting an empty bed next to her but to her surprise, a good surprise, there was a very large bunch of roses on the bed next to her with a little note from Jack telling her to meet him in the kitchen where he would be making her breakfast. He was a sorry man and Beth was highly intrigued to find out his reasoning for walking out on her when she told him the biggest news of her own and his life.

Beth threw on her dressing gown and made her way downstairs to find him slaving over the frying pan. He didn't know that she was there as he was singing and dancing along to the radio. It made her giggle a little even though she was mad at him. He turned at her giggle and told her to sit down at the table as breakfast was ready.

Jack put the plate down in front of Beth and they ate in a comfortable silence. They ate quickly though as Jack knew Beth wanted to talk. He had a lot of explaining to do. He took the plate from her once they were done and led her to the living room where they sat together on the couch facing each other. This is what Beth wanted, what she had been waiting for, an explanation.

"I'm really sorry for my behaviour last night" Jack said

"Why did you leave?" Beth asked jumping straight to the point

"First, i want this baby with you" Jack said taking her hand

"Good, i wasn't going to get rid of it" Beth nodded

"I wouldn't ever ask you to" Jack said "Let me explain"

Jack went into explaining why he left. Initially, he was scared for the responsibility of having a baby which is kind of normal with a first baby but no reason to leave Beth alone as the news affected her too. He then explained that he was terrified about bringing a baby into this life. He thought he might be like his father and be aggressive and scary and that was something he certainly didn't want. He didn't want to ruin the kid's chances in life. That's when Beth began to feel sorry for him.

"You're amazing Jack, you're nothing like you father" Beth said cuddling into him

"I'm just a criminal" Jack sighed

"You are not, you are the guy I'm in love with, who has looked after me for so long and you will be an amazing father" Beth said

He looked down at Beth from where they were sitting and a little tiny tear fell from his eye and rolled down his cheek. He was crying.

"Its okay Jack" Beth said letting him rest his head on her chest as she played with his hair

As he lay there, Beth turned the TV on so they had something to fill the silence. After a while, she found he had fallen asleep so she left him on the couch to go make lunch.

Beth's heart really went out to him. She was not mad at him at all anymore because she felt too bad for him. He really wasn't anything like his father. To be honest, he wasn't like a criminal either. If Beth didn't know about everything he had done then she wouldn't think he was capable of such things. She knew he would be an amazing father no doubt, he just needed to believe he will.

Once she had finished making lunch, she carried it through to the living room where he was still asleep. She set the food down on the table and went on to wake him up. He yawned and rubbed his eyes before spotting the food.

"I made lunch" Beth smiled

"I see that" Jack said taking his plate

They cuddled together on the couch while eating and watching the crap day time television. As time moved on his hand had slowly moved onto Beth's stomach where he rubbed his fingers over it. He looked down every so often and smiled a little before looking back at the tv. He had no idea Beth was watching him and it was adorable.

"So what do you want it to be?" Jack asked taking Beth's attention off the television

"I don't mind" Beth said, patting her stomach lightly "What about you?"

"I haven't made up my mind yet, as long as its healthy" Jack smiled

"Yeah, as long as its healthy" Beth agreed

"We can turn the room next to ours into the nursery" Jack said "I'll start as soon as i can and the boys can help"

"Maybe we should get passed the twelve week mark before we start majorly planning and we haven't even told everyone yet" Beth said

"Yeah, you're probably right I'm just a little excited" Jack grinned

"I can see that" Beth smiled at him as he ran his hand across her stomach

Jack seemed to have lightened up a whole lot on the idea of having a baby. Beth could only hope that he realised that he is really nothing like his father and he will be nothing like him when the baby comes. His past didn't make him into a horrible person who would beat up his child, it made him into a strong man who would protect his own and she could see that. He was so protective over her so he'll only be a lot more protective over his firstborn baby. He was going to be perfect.
