Criminal [Book 2]

Chapter Four

When Beth got home, she sat in the living room staring into space. She was four weeks pregnant with Jack's baby. She never thought they would have a baby. It seemed too dangerous with what Jack was involved in. Beth would hate herself if anything happened to their little baby.

Beth decided she would call Jack and leave him a voicemail to let him know she had something to tell him. It took her about four tries before she finally sent it. She was scared and not having him here with her made it a lot worse. She had to go through this alone until he came back in a few days.

The only good thing about this was Beth had a few days to get herself prepared to tell Jack and prepare herself for his reaction whether it be good or bad. She hoped it would be good and he would be extremely happy and excited to be a father.

When she finally got herself into bed that night, it wasn't easy to fall asleep with all the thoughts she had floating around in her brain but eventually, she did.

Beth was woken up early the next day with movement downstairs. This has happened too many times and it had always been bad news so she panicked a little. A little less than she would have before though as she was prepared now. She slipped herself out of bed and grabbed the gun she had in her bedside table. No one was knocking her down today, not now that she knew there was a little human growing inside her.

She crept down the hallway to the top of the stairs where she saw Jack at the bottom taking his shoes off.

"Jesus Christ Jack, you scared the shit out of me" Beth sighed lowering the gun

"I'm glad you took precaution though" Jack said nodding at the gun as Beth made her way downstairs

"You're home early" Beth said putting the gun down on the kitchen table as she entered the room

"Yeah, I got your message about needing to tell me something, it sounded serious so I got everyone to come back early" Jack said

"You left a job?" Beth asked surprised

"You're way more important, priorities babe" Jack said putting his hand on her cheek

"Okay, well sit down and I'll tell you" Beth said motioning to a chair

"Are you leaving me?" Jack asked with a hint of hurt in his eyes

"What? No way, I love you" Beth said pulling him into a hug

"I was worried" Jack sighed as he wrapped his arms around her waist

"It could be good news depending on how you take it" Beth said

Jack nodded and pulled away from their hug before sitting on the chair next to the table.

"Shoot" Jack said, letting Beth know to tell him what's happening

"I'm not going to beat around the bush" Beth said

"Okay" Jack said

"I'm just going to come out and say it" Beth said

"Then say it" Jack urged

"I'm four weeks pregnant" Beth said watching his face intently for his reaction

"What?" Jack asked

"I'm pregnant" Beth repeated

Jack looked at her and then her stomach before standing from the chair. Beth didn't know what she was expecting, maybe a hug but definitely not what he did next. He just stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him. Not a single word of where he was going or why. Not even if he was happy about the baby or not. He just left her standing in the middle of the kitchen, now with teary eyes as the man she loved reacted so badly to her being pregnant.

Beth looked out the kitchen window and watched as he drove away from the house. She honestly had no idea what to do so she phoned Arianna.

"Hey, did you tell him?" Arianna asked as soon as she picked up the phone

"He left me" Beth sighed

"What? He left you?" Arianna said almost shouting. She could hear in the background, Noah asking her what's she talking about.

"Not left me like that, he just stormed off out the house" Beth said

"Right okay, I'll be over soon and Noah will go find him" Arianna said

"Thank you" Beth said as they hung up

It didn't take them long at all to arrive at the house and the first thing Arianna did was pull Beth into a hug.

"He's an asshole" Arianna said "I'm going to make us tea"

Noah walked in behind her with a small smile on his face.

"Congratulations" Noah smiled "And ill find him and bring him back, I'm sorry for his reaction"

"Not your fault" Beth shrugged "And thank you"

Noah left almost immediately to go get Jack and Arianna and Beth sat in the kitchen drinking tea and having a complete bitch about the situation. Beth loved Jack but she needed to get this everything off her chest. Eventually she grew tired and Noah still wasn't back with Jack. Arianna told her to go to bed and she would wait for them so Beth went to lay down.

Noah had found Jack at a bar and made it no secret that he was mad at him. Jack hadn't been drinking or anything he just wanted to get away to think. Noah had obviously been at the house and saw Beth so he knew the situation. He didn't stop pestering until Jack left with him.

When they got back to the house, Beth wasn't awake but Arianna was so angry at Jack for leaving her, she was almost ready to explode. She had every right to, Jack knew what he did was horrible but he did have his reasons and he would be talking to Beth about it tomorrow after he apologised to her.

After a long hard think, Jack decided he wanted this baby with Beth and he would never dream of asking her to get rid of it. He knew he had to make it up to her.
