Turning away the boy you had pined after for so many years had felt like it had destroyed you, but you had to do it if you cared about yourself even slightly. You did your best to keep your chin up though, get through all the hells of life in Hogwarts and get to the party that would make everything feel like it made sense for even just a moment.

At the Ball, you had seen George enter and you did your best not to stare, no matter how much you wanted to. You tried to keep your attention on your date, even though you both agreed it was just as friends and just to keep face so that you wouldn't have to go it alone. The two of your danced for what felt like hours until your date wanted a break and a familiar face quickly appeared in front of you.

"Y/N," George said softly, offering you an apologetic smile.

"George."

He held out a hand to you. "Would you like to dance with me? There's no catch."

You nodded your head and took his hand. George led you back into the crowd of people as the two of you decided to start dancing along to the music.

"I'm sorry," he stated. "I'm sorry for being a complete bloody arse."

"You can say that again," you muttered.

George took a second to compile his thoughts before he gained your attention once again with his words.

"I like you too Y/N, and although I knew you liked me, I was scared that it wasn't true and I would make a fool of myself if I ever said anything about it so it seemed safer to be cruel and heartless with you when I should have done anything but that," he explained.

"You really struggle to show that you like someone, Weasley," you frowned. "You made me feel the fool though by using me and how I felt for your own gain."

"I wish I hadn't," he stated. "I never meant to hurt you and I promise nothing of the sort will ever happen again, not as long as you are able to give me a second chance."

This time you needed a second to try and get your thoughts in check. Desperately your head wanted you to tell him where to shove it, but your heart was far more powerful.

"Everyone deserves a second chance."
