"Anya, we all have secrets. Everybody is not perfect. God knew you before you even knew yourself. He loves you." Mrs. Sonya said to me.
Mrs. Sonya Thompson is a therapist down here in New Orleans. I started going to her when my best friend Jason told me about her. I've been seeing her for about a month, and she's literally the best. She knows how to be that honest and blunt therapist, and that's what I like about her.
"Anya, you have to tell your family that you was raped by your sisters boyfriend. It's not easy keeping a secret like this from them, and it's not right either. Every time he's around, from what you tell me at least, you shut yourself out, and we can't do that." Mrs. Sonya said to me.
"......I know Mrs. Sonya, I really do know, but Amya is happy with Hakeem and I don't want to ruin their relationship by saying "oh hey sis, your man raped me". And knowing how deep in love Amya is with Hakeem, she's not going to believe me. She's really going to hate me, and not speak to me again. And then the whole entire family is going to just shut me out like they always do." I sighed.
"What do you mean when you say they always do?" Mrs. Sonya asked me.
"I-"
"Hey y'all, I'm sorry for interrupting the session, but Sonya you have a call on line 3. It's from a Tony Anderson." This woman said to Mrs. Sonya.
She sighed. "Tell him I'll call him back later."
Once the woman left, Sonya looked at me and she semi smiled.
"I'm sorry about that, now tell me why you feel left out?" She asked me.
"Like I told you before, ever since I got raped by him that night August got shot, it's like all the attention now goes to Monique. And I get that her child's father is in a coma and he's paralyzed, but she's not the only one in this family who goes through things. It's like....Ever since Monique came back into our lives, my life just went downhill. I forgave her about her past, but now it's like she's taking over and can't nobody else see that. When it comes to Amya and Hakeem, everybody thinks their relationship is the best relationship ever when it's not. My aunts barely talk to me, and my siblings only talk to me when they need something. Other than that, they don't even budge to ask me anything so I just keep quiet." I said.
"Mmm." Mrs. Sonya said. "It seems to me like you're jealous Anya, and I say that because you said when Monique came back into y'all lives, then everything went downhill for you. Now, this Monique, is she your sister for real or ?"
