She Used To Be Mine

Newsie: Jack

Time Period: Modern AU

Backstory:  You're done with being in a loveless/abusive marriage, so you asked Jack if you could move in with him since he's your best friend. You're in a random city in New York, wishing for a new start. 

A/N: Sorta like Waitress but not really..? lol, I just had this idea pop up, there might be some similarities? I honestly just took the liberty to do what I wanted. Just an FYI, if something is grammatically wrong or timing doesn't line up, lmk and I can go back and fix it.

"Two coffees and a scone please."

"Perfect, I'll be right back with y'alls order!"

After turning away from the couple, Y/N's smile disappeared in an instant. Looking up at the clock, she saw that her shift ends in thirty minutes. She couldn't wait to get out of that place. Sure, she loved the owners dearly, but with a little bun in the oven, all she wanted to do at that very moment was to go home and sleep. 

"Hey Ronnie, you got the order yet?"

Giving the hardworking waitress a tired smile, Ronnie gave her the tray with the requested items on top of it, "Here you go sugar, and why don't you take off after serving them? We can manage here, you go home and rest."

A single tear was threatening to slide down her cheek. Giving the owner a genuine smile, Y/N quickly made her way over to the young couple. "Here you go, two coffees and a scone. Is there anything else I can help y'all with?"

Shaking her head, the young girl grinned, "No, thank you so much for asking!"

"Well alrighty then, enjoy your meal!"

Heading back into the workroom, Y/N began to think again about her plan of moving out of her current apartment. Her husband, Brian, was a useless piece of shit and she just couldn't stand being near him anymore. Especially with a precious little baby coming, she wanted to find a new place, to start over.

She's been secretly saving up for the past few months in order to have enough money to get out of the city and move out. Now that she thought about it, she has a cousin down in Texas. Maybe she'll give him a call later, it's been awhile since she's seen David.

After punching in her card, she bids good-bye to the sweet old couple and heads back home, not without pulling out her phone in order to talk to her best friend, Jack. After high school, the two remained in touch all throughout college, even after Y/N got together with Brian. He was the person she would run to whenever there was a problem or just needed someone to talk too since Brian was always occupied with something else.

Unlocking her phone and scrolling down to his contact, Y/N presses the "call" button, and hears three rings before Jack's voice came through. "Why good afternoon ma'am, how may the magnificent Jack Kelly help you today?"

Rolling her eyes, she sarcastically replies, "I was wondering if the magnificent Jack Kelly has any free time to spare since he's suddenly become quite the busy man from the last time we've spoken."

"Hmm, let me check my agenda.... Yep, I got some time! How are you and the little bean doing?" He was currently finishing up a new project to hang up in his gallery he was going to open up in Santa Fe. Ever since he was a kid, he wanted to open up his own gallery all throughout the U.S.

Despite his hectic schedule, he always put aside time to talk to his best friend. Yes, things have been different ever since she married Brian, but that was something he expected. Brian seemed to be a good guy, but he did have a bit of a temper. Y/N looked over that and was happy with him.
