You know how sometimes, you're really busy with really important stuff because you're a brand new business owner, and you're super stressed, and you need to focus, but your friends are bored and decide it's okay to call you?

No? Just me, then. Thought so.

To those who saw the opening ceremony, whether that be from watching on Velvet's page or you were here in person, it went pretty smoothly, did it? Yeah, putting all that together took a tremendous amount of time and energy and I'm pretty sure I was on a caffeine high for most of it. Not something I'm proud to admit, but it's true. I was constantly doing something in the week and a half of complete crunch mode I had for the opening. I wanted it to be as good as it possibly could be, which it was. I was very proud. But here's a little detail that amuses me to look back on:

I was probably at my busiest at this point in time, hold onto that thought. I had music to choose, a skit to run through, lighting and sound notes to make, it was a mess. Thank the good lord Charlie was there or I'd have lost my mind. In the midst of this mess, I received a phone call. At first I thought it was my contractor, Octavian, but upon looking at the caller ID, I saw that it was just Angel.

Now, being as Angel is my best friend, I gave an exasperated sigh and answered the phone.

" Hello? I'm really busy right now," I said when I picked up.

" Yeah yeah," he said, " I know that. Do you think Ave is weird?"

You seriously called me just to say that? Was my immediate thought. I was highly annoyed and wanted to hang up, but if I did that I would risk a very unhappy friend, which is a minorly dangerous thing, so I didn't.

"Oh yes," I said, "very, but in a charming kinda way."

I hear Angel pull away from the receiver and shout to who must've been Averie in the background "See? I told you she liked you!"

If you don't recall, Angel seems to be set on seeing Averie and I together. I find it annoying and Averie thinks it's funny, so he started laughing. I'm over here on the other side of the phone like "Mhm, yeah, very funny, I'm working, I'm gonna hang up now." I said that I was going to hang up too, and he wouldn't let me. He and Ave were bored, because they were just sitting there with Val and Vox, so I was apparently the next best option. Not ideal, especially right now, but I was gonna have to live with it.

Eventually the subject shifted to height. Angel is about 8 to 9 feet, Vox is 7 feet and Val is a whopping 12 feet tall. Me? I'm 4'4''. Out of that group, and everyone I know, I am the shortest, and Angel thinks that's hilarious, so he teases me about it. Calls me things like "candy bar" and "shortie". Apparently that means I'm cute or something, which I don't see but whatever. Anyway he brought up height, which inevitably led to him teasing me about my height. This is how I responded; listen because this important to the next part of the story:

" I'm tiny and I'm happy about it! Except for when Val is around because the man is fricking 12 feet tall, and that's scary to someone he could literally squash between his fingertips."

"Indeed I could," I hear from the other end.

Not gonna lie, my heart kinda stopped for a minute.

"Hey Al?" Angel is giggling like crazy at this point and I'm at a loss for words, but I manage to squeak out "Yes?"

"You're on speaker phone and Val is sitting right next to me," he wheezes. He's full on laughing at me by now. I'm sitting there next to Charlie, sweating nervously. When I went to speak again, my voice shook so much that no one really understood what I said, and neither did I, I was so nervous. This is another example of how not smart I can be sometimes. The life of me is so fun.

Eventually Angel said I could hang up, after I stressed for the millionth time that I really needed to focus at the moment. Charlie noticed my state of temporary shock and asked me what was wrong. I just shook my head.

"You don't wanna know," I said.

And that my friends is why I will kill Angel if he ever calls me at work again. I mean, uh, why you should always be aware of what you say when you're on the phone with your friend 'cause you never know who all is on the other end and whether or not you're on speaker phone. This is your host Alaska and that's it for today's story! Don't be stupid like me.
