Saad's pov:

Numb. That was all I felt when I returned after grabbing mama's medicines from the clinic. Bags lined the hall and worried expressions adorned everyone's faces. Ammi, Atifa and Amira were nowhere to be seen and for a moment my heart skipped a beat as I looked around, trying to find them.

Exhaling loudly, I ran a hand through my hair in frustration, starting to regret my decision of staying out longer than necessary. 'I should have come back home sooner! I knew heading to the clinic was a bad idea! I should have asked someone else to bring it! I shouldn't have left them alone in the first place.'

But what was wrong? Wasn't everything fine since we had dinner together? It was ammi's idea after all. Wasn't she going to tell us the matter at least?

As my gaze frantically searched around, it finally landed on bhabi who was standing in a corner, fiddling with her fingers. When she noticed me, she discreetly motioned towards her room, telling me that they were still in there.

A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I let my body sag in relaxation. But it wasn't for long either. Just as I let my guard down, a flurry of questions tumbled down my mind, making me squeeze my eyes shut as another gust of frustration hit me along with it.

Quickly making my way to the lobby and ignoring everyone's gaze, I knocked on the door impatiently.

When no one answered the door even on my second knock, all sorts of thoughts roamed in my mind. What if they left from the window and the bags kept in the hall were just for show? No one would know if they did that! Oh God!

The door opened, just as I lifted my hand to knock for the third time, making me sigh in relief. Ammi stood in front of me with a raised brow, silently asking me what the matter was. My gaze landed on Atifa who was standing by the bed, a stoic expression on her face as she looked anywhere but at me. She had worn her abaya… Already? They were leaving already?

What happened here? Why was the atmosphere so tense? What was I missing? No actually, what was I not missing?!

"Can we talk now?" I moved my gaze back to ammi, desperation clear in my voice.

"Does it look like I have time to talk to anyone?" Folding her arms, she raised a brow.

Sighing, I ran a hand through my hair. "Yeah, since you were talking to your daughter just now, I suppose you might have time for your 'son-in-law' too." Faking a smile, I quoted 'son-in-law' with my fingers.

"Well, she is my daughter, maybe I have time to talk to her but not you. I mean, you aren't going with us right now so…" Shrugging her shoulders, she looked away, a sly smirk playing on her lips.

"Well, if I must remind you, You were the one who got us married in the first place! So I think I have a right to ask you what's happening." I finally snapped, losing my calm. She was testing my patience and honestly, I had none at that moment.

"Nothing much. If you can't see, or if you forgot then let me remind you again. We are leaving. And you know what's the best thing? Our packing is almost done and the cab will be here soon. So it would be better if instead of questioning me, you help us pack up." She looked back at the bag, which I realised Atifa was packing.

"But that's the thing! WHY ARE YOU GUYS LEAVING?!"

"Now that's… something which I can't tell you. Maybe someday in the future, if fate ever brings us in front of each other again." She marvelled, her eyes gleaming in mischief as she stared at me, enjoying my reaction.

"What do you mean by 'if fate ever brings us in front of each other?!' Are you not planning on coming back? Ever? Or letting us know what's the matter at least? Is it me? Did I do something wrong? Or are you afraid of my family? How would they treat your daughter? What is it? Please tell me! Let's just try to sort this out for once!" I asked her, feeling exasperated.
