Atifa's pov:
Opening my eyes, I squinted at the bright lights above. This time, my whole body was in pain. I was also feeling unusually cold.
"S- Saad?" Confused, I called out, my voice coming out unusually low and groggy.
"Api."
"Mira?"
"Ar- are you okay?" With tears glistening in her orbs, she asked me.
"Y- yes. Where is your bhaijaan?"
"He went to pray."
"Oh. What time is it?"
"It's a- around nine." Glancing up at me, she stuttered.
"And why are you crying?" She wasn't hurt, was she? And nothing happened to ammi either, right?
"N- no. I'm not." Sniffing, she looked away while quickly wiping her tears off.
"W- what happened? Is everything okay?" With various scenarios running in my mind, I asked her, scared.
"Y- yes. I was just worried about you."
I attempted to give her a smile as a relieved sigh escaped my lips. "I'm fine. You shouldn't worry about me. Did you have your dinner yet?"
"No. I'm not hungry." She shook her head.
"Okay. Let your bhaijaan come and then I will ask him to bring something for us. What do you want to eat?" I had a feeling that she didn't want to eat because of me. I didn't know if it was because I was sick or because maybe, accidentally, she heard our conversation.
"I don't want to eat anything." Keeping her head on the bed beside my hand, she repeated.
"Pizza? Or a burger? And maybe pastries too? What do you say?"
Chuckling, she shook her head. "Bhaijaan won't let you have anything."
A smile graced my lips at her reply. At least she didn't deny having it. "We will see about that when he comes. Just tell me what you want for now. And no excuses."
"Api…" Looking at me with her big doe eyes, she whined.
"Mira…" I mimicked, looking at her with the same expression as hers.
"I will have a cheese sandwich." She sighed.
"Just that? Nothing else?" I frowned.
God, how much I missed Emaan at that moment! If she would have been there, she would have asked her to take advantage of this moment and ask for whatever she wanted!
"Yes api." She kept her head back on the bed.
"Okay. I will tell him." A tired sigh escaped my lips. I didn't have it in me to argue with anyone.
"Api… Can I ask you something?" She murmured quietly, hesitantly.
"Yes Mira." I turned my gaze to her.
"What happened? Why were you… crying... in the evening?..." She looked up at me through her lashes.
Inhaling sharply at her question, I blinked my tears and looked away. I- I didn't know what to tell her or how to tell her. "N- nothing. I just… got emotional…"
"Really? There is no other reason?" She raised her brows in disbelief.
"Y- you shouldn't worry about it princess. I'm fine now..."
Just as I was wondering where Saad could have gone, the door opened and we heard his concerned voice. "Is your api up, princess? Should I call the doctor?"
