Saad's pov:
"Where are you going now?!" Running a hand through my hair, I asked her.
"I- I don't know!" Clutching the sides of the bed, she sat on it. Noticing Alayna and Amira in the room, I tried to think of an excuse to cover this mess.
"Alayna, Amira, can you come with me? Maaz is here." But before I could tell them anything, we heard bhabi's voice calling out to them.
"Jee bhabi!"
(Okay.)
"Api, aap theek hai? Bhaijaan, api ko kya hua?" Scrambling towards us, Amira kept her hand on Atifa's lap, looking worried.
(Are you alright? What happened to her, Saad?)
"Bhabi, why are you crying? Did someone hurt you? Should I ask bhai to teach them a lesson?" Alayna followed quickly, touching Atifa's cheeks softly.
"No princesses. I'm alright. I will be fine..." Wiping her tears away hastily, she tried to compose herself.
"Your api is okay. I'm here with her. You guys should go, bhabi is calling you, right." I intervened, trying to give them a small smile.
"Okay..." Reluctantly moving away, they walked out while stealing glances at her. Closing the door, I sat beside her, unsure of what to say or ask her.
"Are you okay?" I asked her softly.
"I don't know, I don't know, I don't know anything!" Exasperated, she covered her face, drowning her sobs.
"Hey hey, please don't cry. Look, I'm here, with you, see." Not knowing what to do, especially when someone was crying, panicked, I extended my arm around her shoulder.
"But for how long? You- I can't- I won't be here with you anymore. Didn't you hear ammi?" Wiping her tears away hastily once again, she moved my hand from her shoulder.
"I will always be there with you Atifa. Just tell me, do you have any idea why she might be behaving this way?" Holding her hands, I murmured softly, not wanting to hurt her. My mind was too jumbled up to specify the reason.
"N- no. Act- actually, ye- yes, maybe. Yes- yesterday when we arrived here, she was already here, waiting for us. A- and she asked me where we were. May- maybe she saw your pictures in my mobile..." Sniffing, she continued to wipe her tears with her other hand.
"My pictures? But why would that be a problem?! Why would she do this just because of me? Even if she did find out we live here, why would she do that just because of it, why would she want to leave this place?"
"I- I don't know..." Looking away, she looked back at me with wide eyes, as if just realising something. "Ya Allah! Y- your family! Ammi messed everything up again, right? What are we going to do now? No, they will question you more than me, what will you do? What will you tell them?"
"They would've gotten to know everything one day anyway. Don't worry about them. We will handle it, I will handle it, okay?" I squeezed her hand lightly. I didn't know what to say.
"Bu- but..."
"No but's. Don't stress out about anything right now. Just calm down, okay? You aren't going anywhere. No one is going anywhere. I'm not going to let anyone go anywhere." I tightened my hold on her. I couldn't let her go. I couldn't even imagine it, let alone having to actually live without her. It was… Just too much. Even the thought of it was too much to digest.
"Th- that can't happen... Y- You can't stop her from doing what she wants to do. She wants us to move, so we will move once again. And you know what's the worst thing? I don't know what's going on in her mind! I don't know what she is planning!" Shaking her head frantically, she pulled her hand away from my grasp. The tears which were starting to cease came forth with full force once again as she tried to stop them.
