Saad's pov:

When I knew that she was out of earshots, I turned to look at Atifa, my hand falling from around her shoulder and my gaze narrowed. "What did she tell you? No actually, why didn't you defend yourself?!"

"I- I didn't think it was necessary…" Avoiding my gaze, she fiddled with her fingers, - which I had come to realise - was her way of dealing with nervousness.

"How, just tell me how was it not necessary when she was raising her hand on you, huh?" Sighing, I closed my eyes while rubbing my forehead. I couldn't even be angry with her!

"I- Uh… Leave it please… I don't want to talk about it." She murmured, looking away.

"But I do want to talk about it. I want to know what was going on in your mind!"

"Your mom… Mentioned about getting you married… To h- her… And sh- she seemed very happy… Maybe- you should actually- consider… Her… Choice?" Was that a sniff which I heard in between her stuttering? I was proved right when she lifted her face. It was clear from her glistening orbs that she was crying.

God, why would she cry? And what was she blabbering? Why would I want to marry Shanzay? The girl who was not even interested in me but in my baba's property! No, I wasn't judging her, but from whatever I had noticed and whatever I knew about her, it suggested that.

"What are you saying?" And how could mama go to other houses and talk about my marriage like that? There was a reason why I hadn't told her about this whole ordeal yet but she just had to go and burst her bubble, right?

"I- I think… Yo- you should… Consider... Th- that proposal..." She sniffed before looking away. This woman! What would I do about her?!

"You really want me to do that?" I asked her, disbelief clear in my voice.

"Ye- yeah…"

"So you won't have any problem if I get married again?" I decided to play around a bit. Let us see how far she was willing to listen to what I had to say. "You will get a… What do we say… Sautan. Yeah, so you wouldn't mind having a sautan?"

(Sautan is a husband's second wife in urdu/hindi.)

"I- I don't know…" She didn't meet my gaze.

"You know… You will have to share me with another woman and... She will have as much right as you have on me… Like, you know..." I paused to give her some time to process before adding quickly. "I don't have any problem with it but since you are my first wife, I thought… You wouldn't like it… But I think you don't have any problem with it either, right? You are the one who is suggesting that idea so…" Watching the changing emotions in her orbs, it was very hard to control my laugh. And in order to hide my treacherous smile, I folded my left arm and covered my mouth with my right hand discreetly.

"So what? You are going to go ahead with it? If I'm going to ask you to jump into the well, will you just follow whatever I say? Seriously? Crazy man!" She snapped, her gaze furious as she glared at me while folding her arms. The traces of tears were long gone now, replaced by her fierceness.

"Tumhi to keh rahi thi ke shaadi kar lu mai… To maine kya galat bola?" Biting my lip, I asked her innocently.

(You were telling me to get married again... Then what did I say wrong?)

"Oh hello janab!? Maine kab kaha shaadi karne? Maine to bas consider karne kaha tha. Aur aap to aage hi nikal gaye. Shaadi and all..." She grumbled in annoyance.

(Oh hello mister!? When did I tell you to get married? I only told you to consider the proposal. But you went too far. Marriage and all...)

"Consider karne ka matlab shaadi karna nahi hota hai? Kyuke consider karne ke baad to shaadi hi aati haina?"
