We split up between the three skeeziest bars we could find and if it weren't for the fact that I slammed a badge down on the counter and made sure my gun was visible I probably would have been tossed around from bastard to bastard like all the other women in the joint. I asked around a bit, mostly the bartenders and bouncer, but no one said anything remotely suspicious so I called the boys and told them I was going home.
I didn't bother walking I just flew into the hotel room getting a yelp and a book thrown at me as a greeting.
"Uhm, ow. Nice to see you too?" I muttered as I picked the book up off the floor and handed it back to Harper.
She smiled apologetically but gave me the sassiest tone she could manage in contradiction, "I know! My face is just spectacular, isn't it?"
I rolled my eyes and huffed a laugh as I kicked off my boots and rifled through Sam's bag for a shirt to wear to bed. I had almost completely stripped when a was hit by a realization.
She threw Supernatural at me.
I stopped in the middle of pulling Sam's shirt over my head and spun around to double check myself.
"Oh. My. God. Where did you find that?" I asked still standing with my arms through the shirt holding it in front of me rather than on me.
Harper paused and checked the cover, "Your bookshelf? In your room...?"
"What one are you on?" I asked not quite aware of the card key being entered in the door.
"The last thing to happen was the boys went to prison to investigate a ghost." She chimed as I heard the door close.
"Did you read them in order?" I asked yet again.
Maybe she skipped the smut.
She just nodded.
"You read the Madison part? And Cassie?" I finally pulled the shirt all the way over my head.
There was a choking sound from behind me where Sam had been taking a drink.
"What?!" He exclaimed after he recovered.
Harper's face paled a few more shades than normal, "uh... I was hoping you would have forgotten those..."
I scoffed, "You don't forget smut like that."
"Amen." She said cracking a smile of relief and raising her hand. "But I didn't need to know some things...."
"Smut like.... What the hell are you talking about?" Sam asked with his eyes nearly popping out of his skull in fear.
Harper and I looked at each other with the 'you go. What no!' look then we both just stared at Sam.
"Did Chuck write in everything?" He asked looking to me for the answer.
"Well.... That depends on how many orgasms Madison actually had...." I mumbled as I inspected the hem of my shirt.
It was Sam's turn to go pale and stand there with his mouth open. Then a look of realization came over his face and he smirked at me.
"So that's why you did the..." He glanced over at Harper and censored himself, "the uh, thing."
My face immediately flushed and I walked around him to grab my makeup remover, "What thing?" I asked, probably over selling my false ignorance as I turned around to give him an unphased stare.
Sam just raised his eyebrows and clicked his teeth a couple times before he gave me a triumphant smirk and turned to dig through his bag.
"Samuel, you kinky little fuck! I thought that was some poetic license or something!" Harper exclaimed with amused shock as she closed the book with extra emphasis.
"Why did you read through it?!" He countered.
"I skimmed most of it! I didn't want to miss where the storyline picked back up!" She defended bring in her knees up to her chest as she leaned back into the couch.
"Most of it?" I asked with my best 'I'm calling your shit' tone.
Sam finished gathering his stuff and held his hand up to quiet Harper as he almost sprinted to the bathroom.
Once we heard the water turn on she finally answered.
"Okay I didn't skim any of it. I thoroughly read the whole thing, but like on one hand that's some hot sex and grade a smut but I really didn't need to know that about them ya feel?" She gushed.
I laughed and sat down next to her on the couch, "Yeah. I'll go through and mark where the next ones are."
"What is it not age appropriate?" She teased rolling her eyes.
"Yes. I would be a horrible surrogate mother if I let you keep reading that. Plus I'm saving the boys from years of embarrassment." I added as I pulled the book out of her hands and flipped through it even though I knew that one didn't have any sex scenes.
Harper paused a moment, "Question." She stated letting her knees fall to the side in a criss cross position.
"Answer" I replied absentmindedly as I continued flipping through pages as I made my way down memory lane.
"Why are you and Sam fighting?"
I paused mid page flip and glanced over at Harper before going back to flipping.
It amazed me how she could be so grown up and adult like one instant then shift into small child mode before you could say 'Apple juice'. She was staring up at me with her big blue eyes full of concern and a slight pout to her lips that reminded me of Olly when it was nap time.
"We're not." I said raising my pitch slightly.
I shouldn't tell her about that.
"Well why don't I see PDA?" Harper pushed the subject.
"I'm just really distracted." I explained, only half lying.
"By what?"
"Nothing you need to know about Harpie." I sighed.
"I'm calling bullshit. What's goin on up in that noggin? It's been all... funny since the talk with your dad." She was obviously not giving this up.
I sighed and closed my eyes letting my head fall into my hands as I rested my elbows on my knees.
"Dads a dick that's what." I grumbled.
"How so?"
"First off, he doesn't want me marrying Sam. Like at all and I now have a tiny clue why. Second, he abandoned me and my mom before I was born then decides to waltz into my life AFTER all my shit hit the fan. Third he could have saved my baby as well as Cas if he had his ears on and fourth he plants the little ideas in your mind that really fuck you up and I swear he gets a kick out of it." I huffed and sat up a little straighter letting my heartbeat slow down again.
"Your baby?" Harper asked looking utterly confused now.
Oh hey. There you go Evelynn. Way to blab.
"Yeah. My baby." I squeaked, "Before I killed Metatron I was pregnant... I got the hell beat out of me and a couple kicks-" I had to take a big breath before I could continue. No matter how much I tried to deny it, this still hurt more than anything else, "...killed the little guy." I had to sniff and blink back some tears before I could continue, "I had no idea until after I woke up in the hospital..."
"Evelynn... I'm sorry." Harper looked like she had heard this type of thing before. She knew the drill.
She put her arm around my shoulders and just leaned into me as I took a moment to pull myself together.
To my surprise I didn't let a tear fall and had almost squashed any sign of emotion in a matter of minutes.
"You know you should probably talk to Sam about whatever your dad said." Harper muttered, "And by probably I mean go interrupt his shower because it's obviously pretty important."
I scoffed and shook my head, "I need to talk to dad first and get the details." I sighed.
"Nope. You're getting married. Talk. To. Him." Harper insisted.
I looked over at her in surprise and indignation.
She has a point.
Before either of us could discuss it further Dean barged in charging straight over to the weapons bag and hollering as he went, "Found her. Get the Sasquatch dressed, we need to go."
